“American Idol” has been named the most successful show on television in recent years. Yahoo Music defines the success of the show and places the credit to the people who are cast. Saying that the more interesting the cast is, the more people are willing to watch and tune in on a regular basis.
According to The Nielsen Company, last season’s show drew an average of 26.3 million viewers, on performance night alone; with results night averaging an estimated 26.9 million viewers. By April, ratings dipped below 20 million viewers. This brought down ratings by 7 percent. According to Bill Gorman of TV By The Numbers, the combined numbers show ratings to be down by 7 percent. Gorman admitted that “Idol” is not down more than any other typical show.
Proving once again that viewers want to see “American Idol” succeed. They love the drama of the potential stars being built from the ground up, all before their eyes. It is the American way to enjoy seeing others succeed and it is a joy for millions to see people’s dreams come true. That is what American is all about.
Here are the three best reasons why you should tune in to “American Idol.”
New judges at the panel who have lived the life of an artist successfully – Millions of viewers have tuned in to previous seasons, and this is before the new star judges were named. Simon Cowell was “American Idol” and many more are let down that he left, than are glad he moved on. However, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez will largely fill the void left behind from Cowell’s departure. Randy Jackson is the only original judge to stay on, so it will be interesting to see the chemistry between him and hopefully the much more focused judges. Tyler and Lopez will come in swinging after all they have a lot to prove to viewers. Though they are super stars in their own right, American viewers want to see what they can do for the Idol contestants. J. Lo and Tyler admit they aren’t there to break any spirits or there to be brutal, but to help them progress. That’s what viewers want to see! Lopez admits that 15-20 of the competitors are real superstars that could already be successful recording artists. Check out what the new trio of judges look like together.
Watch the competitors as they grow from amateur singer to star and have their dreams come true – This is the best part of the show for millions of viewers. Viewers love watching a singer grow into their full potential. Call it an American dream, or whatever you’d like, but people love to see others have their dreams fulfilled. It is the American way. This is what keeps viewers and die-hard fans coming back for more each season. There is something very gratifying in seeing someones dreams come true. Everyone loves a success story and feels inspired to follow their own dreams.
Sheer entertainment – With a brand new season, reworked show, new producers, new superstar judges (who have already lived successful music careers) – this is sure to be the best season of “American Idol”, ever. That’s saying a lot, considering the show drew in 29.8 million viewers at it’s January 13, 2010 premiere, and that was without the biggest star Paula Abdul. The show lost 7 percent of viewers upon Abdul’s departure. Imagine how many millions of viewers want to see Aerosmith’s front-man, Steven Tyler, and Jenny from the Block.
Season 10 begins January 2011 on FOX.
