If you haven’t watched this show already, you should certainly give it a try. Why? Because it’s not the usual fare. It’s not crime, it’s not romance, and it’s not politics and certainly not political intrigue. It’s adventure, plain and simple.
The show makes no kind of effort to seduce you to stay hooked. You get hooked on your own! There’s a simple reason behind this. All of us have an adventurer lurking inside of us. We all want to do something that will test our mettle, and find ourselves worthy of respect. However, what most of us do is warm our office chairs 9 to 5 and then watch shows like “Deadliest Catch”. If that’s all the adventure you’re planning to get, then you must watch this show.
Who ever thought crab fishing would be this dangerous? Those crabs look mighty dangerous with the large claws and everything but after watching this show, it’s apparent that people risk their lives on a daily basis to bring those luscious catches to our table. A tough crew battles it out on a boat in the Bering Sea, battling tough situations, treacherous weather conditions to frustrated crewmembers trying to chop each other up!
Adversity makes us the person we are. Nothing could be more adverse than a wild ocean trying to swallow your flimsy little boat. Nothing could be more adverse than knowing all you’ve got standing between you and certain death is your determination and faith in yourself. Each episode focuses on a different story, a different theme or a situation that occurs on one or more boats. Exciting stories on the side give you a peek into a crewmember’s background. The boats compete with each other and there’s envy, frustration and downright fury. Amidst all this human drama, there’s the ever present dark presence of the ocean, never to be ignored.
The crew captains’ camaraderie flabbergasts you. How does a person stay so positive given the dangers they’re sailing on? But that’s the beauty of this show. Real adventure, spiked with friendly rivalry, sneak peeks into people’s brains and the emergence of true grit and brilliance in the face of danger.
All of it makes for an unbeatable combination of adventure, drama and purpose. For you and me sitting in front of the idiot box with our crabmeat sandwiches, watching this high-adrenalin adventure feels almost like doing the real thing.
