The Cheesecake Factory Restaurant has become a popular place to dine, because it’s family-friendly, a little hip ‘- and has cheesecake to die for. Unfortunately, popularity and good taste doesn’t always translate into health. If you’re watching your cholesterol, blood pressure, or your weight, eating at the Cheesecake Factory shouldn’t be your first choice. But what if you order something “safe” like the grilled turkey burger? After all, how bad could a turkey-burger be? You might be surprised.
Grilled Turkey Burgers Aren’t Always Virtuous
Many health-conscious eaters order a turkey burger instead of a beef one, believing they’ve made the healthier choice. Not necessarily so. Many restaurant turkey burgers, including the grilled turkey burger at the Cheesecake Factory, are made with dark-meat, which has more calories and fat than lean ground turkey made with white meat. Restaurants then take the liberty of piling on humongous globs of “special sauce”, a strip or two of bacon, and a generous serving of gooey cheese before serving it with a side of crispy French fries. Bite into this ticking time bomb and you may never slide into a size-six pair of jeans again.
The Cheesecake Factory Nutrition: The Low Down on the Grilled Turkey Burger
Cheesecake Factory does a stellar job of offsetting any health benefits you might get from the turkey on their grilled turkey burger. Want the cold, hard facts? This burger has 1,331 calories and 31 grams of fat. Add to that 1,674 milligrams of sodium ‘- and it’s enough to send you running to Burger King where you can munch on two Whoppers for the same amount of damage – and spend less too. At least there you won’t be tempted to top off the meal with a piece of Cheesecake Factory cheesecake with well over 1,000 calories.
The Cheesecake Factory Nutrition: What’s the Best Way to Reduce the Damage?
The safest option is to choose an entree from their “weight management” menu. Barring that, the grilled fish or the seared tuna tataki salad are reasonable choices. If only a burger will do, you’re better off biting into the beef-based Factory Burger with 737 calories and only half the fat of the grilled turkey burger. Better yet? Eat at a restaurant with a little more emphasis on health.
