The Birmingham Planning Board unanimously approved an ordinance that would allow bistros in the rail district. But, in order for the plan to move forward, it must get through the Birmingham City Commission. Some local residents are concerned about the about the impact of traffic and noise, especially if bistros are allowed to stay open late.
I say, pass the ordinance! It is not like a bistro is a biker bar with bikini waitstaff. It is not like it is going to be Mardi Gras. These are high-class establishments with excellent food. The definition of a bistro is a small restaurant. Seriously, how much traffic and noise would they create? People don’t need to inhibit capitalism. Birmingham is a high-class area and bistros will only reinforce that image.
