“What kinda bird don’t fly?” Why a jailbird, of course…
Poor little Willie Nelson. He’s been busted for marijuana possession…again. This time in Hudspeth County, Texas on Friday morning. Apparently, he was on his bus and on his way home to Austin from California when they were stopped at a Border Patrol checkpoint. Nelson was thrown in the slammer for his six ounce (alleged) possession and released on a $2500 bail.
As you all probably know, this isn’t the first time a headline (or the cops) has linked the name Willie Nelson and the words “marijuana possession” in the same sentence (or ticket). Nelson is a known proponent of legalizing pot and is open about his smoking habits.
Songs have been written about him ” I’ll Never Smoke Weed With Willie Again ” (Toby Keith and Scott Emerik). Legends have been told about him: Willie smoked pot on the roof of the White House . Seems like Willie, now 77, has no intention of slowing down.
Members of his crew were busted this past January for moonshine and marijuana possession in North Carolina, after he had cancelled the concert due to a hurt hand. In 2006, he and four others were charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and mushrooms in Louisiana. And those are just his most recent run-ins.
It’s a little late in the game to try to force Willie to change his ways. Quite frankly, this arrest just pulls me more toward Willie’s side in the great pot debate. As a Texan, my tax dollars went to throwing poor old Willie Nelson in jail and holding him and feeding him and holding the sentencing and trial that may ensue from his arrest.
Personally, I don’t care what Willie smokes. He’s a grown man capable of making his own decisions. He had a driver for his bus that, presumably, was not smoking illegal substances because he wasn’t charged with anything. I can probably think of a thousand better uses for those tax dollars than putting a little old pot-smoker in the klink.
Leave Willie Nelson alone, people! Let him live in peace! But, whatever you do, I wouldn’t recommend getting on his tour bus…you have been warned…
