A whimsical holiday tree is always a fun way to add style to your home. These incredibly easy sheet music snowflake ornaments are super inexpensive to create but make for a great theme.
For this project, you will need (per ornament set):
– Sheet music
– Several different sized snowflake shaped stencils
– Craft knife
– Self healing mat
– Tea bag
– Shallow pan filled with warm water
– Small paper plate
– Black acrylic paint
– Sponge brush
– Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
– Single hole punch
– 1/4 inch wide red satin ribbon
– Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
For easiest cleanup at the completion of this snowflake ornament project, it is best to cover the workspace with sheets of old newspaper and/or a large drop cloth prior to starting. Lay the sheet music out flat with the writing face up. Saturate a tea bag in a shallow pan of water. Smear the tea bag across the sheet music to create an aged look on the paper. Let the sheet music paper dry completely.
Pour a bit of black acrylic paint onto a small paper plate. Dip the bristles of a toothbrush into the black paint. Use the pad of your thumb to flick the bristles of the toothbrush so that tiny specks of black paint fall onto the sheet music paper. Dry completely.
Turn the sheet music paper face down on the self healing mat. In pencil, trace several different sized snowflakes from stencils onto the paper. Carefully cut out the snowflake designs using a craft knife.
Spray each snowflake shape on both sides with a liberal coat of Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Keep adding coats and drying for thirty minutes between until the paper stiffens. Let the snowflake sheets dry overnight.
Use a single hole paper punch to create a small hole at the top of each snowflake. Cut lengths of 1/4 inch wide red satin ribbon. Thread the ribbon through the holes and tie to secure. Hang the sheet music snowflake ornaments from the red ribbon on your holiday tree.
TIP: Additional details can also be added to the snowflake designs. Consider using red acrylic paint and a fancy monogram stencil to make each snowflake a special piece. Also, instead of using these beauties on a tree, use them as part of the bow piece on a holiday gift.
