As the winter season approaches it is time to reassess your wardrobe and make sure that you add the key pieces that will move your style from fall to winter. Here are some ideas for pieces that will define a winter wardrobe.
Boots are hot for winter. The ankle boot is particularly hot and the stiletto heel is very hot. Don’t get rid of those thigh high boots from last year, they are still as hot as ever this winter. Fur boots are being seen everywhere. They can be tall or short, dark or light, long fur or short, if you want to be trendy these are as hot as you can get for winter. If these styles don’t appeal, military style lace up boots and flat sandal styles are still very much in fashion as are wedge and moderate heels.
Gloves are an accessory that you need for winter and you should have at least a couple of pairs. Leather and knit are the practical choices but what’s really hot are the fingerless and lace styles. You may end up with cold hands but you will be on the cutting edge of fashion.
When it comes to a winter coat the styles are all over the place. Long is in and so are short jackets. Military is still a very hot trend and faux fur in trendy colors and prints is on store racks everywhere. Real fur is being offered as well in new and updated styles for those who can afford it. The pea coat and the basic wool or cashmere coat in camel are hot, hot, hot. You can’t go wrong with a black pea coat but red, gray or olive are also hot colors for winter.
Cashmere is the fabric of the winter season. Cashmere sweaters in basic or fashion colors, a pretty turtleneck or a great cardigan are the perfect choice. If you want to follow the trend but spend a little less money, why not consider adding a cashmere scarf or gloves in a fashion forward color.
What’s old is new again for winter. The full skirts of the 1950’s are very much in style and whether you go for an authentic retro look that you can find at a consignment shop or a modern interpretation of the style, go for long, full and comfortable and you will be interpreting the runway style in your own wardrobe. Another way to go retro is with the full Katherine Hepburn style of slacks. A comfortable woolen men’s cut black slack will be the perfect addition to your wardrobe this winter.
Fair Isle Sweater
Get a roomy authentic Scottish Fair Isle sweater and complete the look with your retro slacks or skirt. You can go with a knockoff but there is nothing quite as nice as the real thing.
Winter is shaping up to be a great time for fashion and by following these few key trends you can interpret these trends in a way that suits your personal style.
