Washington County, Wisconsin runs quite a bit of Halloween activities each year, ranging from pumpkin farms to the Hubertus House of Horror, a place whose name is common to families in the area. Located in Hubertus (of course), this haunted house not only provides fun and horror for families (appropriate for ages 10 and older), but is doing so for the good of St. Gabriel School (all proceeds go towards keeping the school open).
The Hubertus House of Horror is open every Friday at 7 pm and Saturday at 6.30 pm in October. Tickets for the House are on sale from 6 pm to 10:30 pm on the same days. Also, the House doesn’t close until the last person is through, which at high volumes, could be at any time. It costs 12 dollars to get in and they ask to round up because it is a fundraiser for the school. The first two weeks of being open are for groups of twenty people or more, which should be scheduled in advance. Also, each ticket sale gets a free pass to The Vortex, an added feature to the House that no other haunted house in Southeastern Wisconsin has.
The House is located at 3733 Hubertus Road and parking is free. Since the House is an indoor event, the waiting area to enter is also indoor and heated. Included in the waiting area are arcade games to relieve a boring wait if attendance volume is high, and concessions before everyone is scared out of their minds. It does have a high scare factor with live actors and different rooms, so don’t eat or drink too much. There is no wheel chair access, either – it is a house that requires climbing around.
On a personal note, I had gone in my pre-teen years and since I was so use to horror movies and a love for Halloween already, it wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be. So, a word to the wise – if you’re one that isn’t easily scared and live actors don’t bother you, you’ll probably have more fun looking around at the work the creators and volunteers have done. If you get scared easily, be ready to scream!

Be sure to dress warm in case the House itself is cooler, and have fun this Halloween.
