Sure, we date to find the ‘deeper’ sides of a guy and hope he’ll see the same in us. However it’s still really important to make good impressions and attract the right man physically, too. You don’t need to be a supermodel, but it is important that you are impeccably groomed, clean and smiling. Remember men are physical creatures and so are you! Read on for more tips to help you have a successful dating experience.
It’s essential that you take the time to make your hair look presentable. Depending on what style you sport, this may be easy or require more effort. Just be sure that whatever style you choose, you take the time to do your ‘do’! Make sure it looks flawless- keep your trims up so you don’t have split ends, don’t let your roots grow out too far and keep as much control over your frizz as possible. Dating expert and owner of the Millionare’s Club, Patti Stanger emphasizes that men love long hair and frequently encourages her high roller clients to grow their locks long. While there are plenty of men who like a variety of hair lengths, this does seem to be the norm. I’m not saying you have to change your hair if you love yours short, but it is something I just wanted to mention.
Men have been known to say they hate makeup. The truth is they don’t dislike it if you apply it correctly and with a light hand. It is in fact, better to go makeup-less than to rush through the process. So many times I’ve seen women quickly dab, rub or brush on their makeup in a hurry. This results in it being visible, many times with streaks or messy tell-tale lines. Also, doing makeup too dark or putting too much on is a turnoff. Keep it simple and well blended. Men love it when a woman darkens her lashes with a touch of mascara and has a glow to her skin.
It’s alluring and attractive for a woman to wear a touch of scent- men love this. Whether you like something light, such as a scented body lotion or a dab of perfume be sure not to overdo it. Spraying perfume everywhere like you see in the movies- all over your hair, legs, chest etcetera- is a bad idea. If the perfume is very noticeable by you it will smell very strong and perhaps too much to him. The key to wearing a fragrance is subtlety. You want the scent to seem like it’s radiating forth from your skin, not smothering your entire being.
Having your nails look good is an absolute must for dating. Put this as a higher priority over makeup. When it comes to anything, but especially dating, people notice your hands and feet (if they’re exposed). I recommend wearing shoes that show your feet so a man can see that you take care of yourself. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard men say that they really take notice of how well a woman’s feet are taken care of. It indicates to him how hygienic and organized you are. I also recommend painting your nails on your hands and feet. If you aren’t into polish, at least make sure your hands and feet are soft and smooth and that you push your cuticles back and file them.
This, like nails, is on the high-priority list for your grooming. Body hair or visible facial hair is a huge turnoff to a man. Since men are hairier than women by nature, it’s in their blood to love a woman who is smooth and without extra hair anywhere but her head (opposites attract!). Be sure to shave your legs and remove any visible facial hair. And PLEASE, remember if you have very hairy arms or hairs on your big toe- (I’ve seen this and can’t stand it) remove it, pronto!
You don’t have to go out and get braces to have a great smile. Simply pick up an at-home whitening kit. Having yellow teeth will really kill the charm factor. Be sure to have overall good oral hygiene such as regular brushing and flossing as well, so your breath is in tip-top shape. A woman’s smile is one of the most powerful assets she can use when in the dating scene. Men love an approachable, smiling lady so keep your teeth nice!
