On September 6th, Blizzard Entertainment launched the first of its pre-Cataclysm events for World of Warcraft. The quests task players with assisting the gnomes (Alliance) and trolls (Horde) with reclaiming their homeland. These are limited time quests which reward special faction-related rewards as well as an achievement for their completion. This guide will help Horde players go step-by-step through Zalazane’s Fall.
After logging in for the first time during the event period, Horde players will receive a letter from Vanira, stating:
Subject: Zalazane’s Fall
Brothas and Sistas,
In de name of all de ancestors, Vol’jin, de son of Sen’jin, issues de call to war! For too long, de traitor Zalazane been usin’ his black magic to desecrate our dead, to lull us into believin’ him defeated, and to keep de Echo Isles from de Darkspears. De time has come to deal wit’ him once and for all. I be helpin’ Vol’jin gather his forces outside Sen’jin Village. Join me dere an’ help us bring long-awaited justice to dis renegade!
In service to Vol’jin,
This does not begin an actual quest. Instead, players must head to the north east of Sen’jin village, located in south Durotar. There Vanira will wait to begin the quest series. Speak with her to accept Da Perfect Spies.
Quest: Da Perfect Spies
Objective: Capture 5 Sen’jin Frogs and attune them to Vanira’s sight at her Sentry Totem.
The frogs Vanira is looking for can be found around the palm trees near Sen’jin, and look like regular green frogs. Her Sentry Totem is located right by her. Head out and find five frogs, collecting them by right clicking (a loot bag will appear on mouse over). They will enter your inventory as Captured Frogs. Return to the sentry totem, and use each of the frogs from your inventory. They will reappear and run around with a new spell over their heads briefly before disappearing. When finished, talk to Vanira again to gain a gold reward and your next quest.
Quest: Frogs Away!
Objective: While riding a bat, use the Sack o’ Frogs to place 12 attuned frogs on the markers in the Echo Isles.
Just south of Vanira (past the dancers) is a bat handler named Handler Marnlek (a totem and a bat will also be there). Speak with him to take a ride on the bat. As you take a pass through the isles on an auto-flight, you will see dozens of white smoke flares. When you see a smoke flare, use your Sack o’ Frogs (available through quest objectives or on your inventory), and toss one in the direction through mouse targeting. The circle does not have to exactly target the smoke flare; so long as the frog lands relatively close you will get credit. If you fail to deliver 12 frog bombs, simply take the flight again to finish, then return to Vanira for your gold reward. Your next quest will come from Champion Uru’zin, directly opposite Vanira toward the coast.
Quest: Trollin’ For Volunteers
Objectives: Use Vol’jin’s War Drums to recruit 5 Troll Citizens in Razor Hill.
The Troll Citizens that need to be recruited are found in Razor Hill, the central town in Durotar. The Bat Handler will give you a free ride up, although you will have to run back down to Sen’jin instead of fly. To recruit a Troll Volunteer, target a Troll Citizen and use Vol’jin’s War Drums (from your inventory or the objective window). The trolls will mount up and ride alongside you on your way back to Sen’jin. Note that you must return the trolls within 15 minutes or they will lose interest.
Return to Champion Uru’zin, and the volunteers will join. Speak to him again for your gold reward, and then return to Vanira for your next quest.
Quest: Lady of the Tigers
Objective: While imbued with the Spirit of the Tiger, lure the Tiger Matriarch out of hiding and use your new abilities to best it in combat.
After accepting the quest, you will be transformed into a Spirit of the Tiger. Your abilities will include Claw, Bloody Rip, and Spinning Rake; you can leave any time through the leave vehicle command. Run south to the small island marked on your map. When you arrive on the island, a level 80 elite tiger will appear. Fight her and bring her health low, and she will transform into Zen’tabra, revealing the true lore about the troll druids. Return to Vol’jin, located next to Vanira, for your reward, and next quest.
Quest: Dance of De Spirits
Objectives: Talk to Witch Doctor Hez’tok near the circle of ritual dancers outside Sen’jin Village when you’re ready to consult the omens.
Special Reward: Darkspear Pride
Hez’tok is located just south of Vol’jin, on the west side of the dancers. Speak with him and ask him to consult the spirits. The Witch Doctor will enter the center of the circle and begin the ritual. After watching the ritual, you will receive quest credit, and can return to Vol’jin for your reward. Darkspear Pride is a permanent useable item which will transform you into a Darkspear Warrior. Return next to Champion Uru’zin for your next quest.
Quest: Preparin’ For Battle
Objectives: Speak to Handler Marnlek for a flight to the staging area. Meet Vol’jin on the island east of the war camp.
Simply return to the bat handler and accept his flight to the staging area. Vol’jin will be just north of where you land. Turn in your quest and accept the new quest.
Quest: Zalazane’s Fall
Objectives: Help Vol’jin take back the Echo Isles and kill Zalazane.
Special Reward: Darkspear Shroud
This is a timed event similar to the Wrathgate or Battle at Light’s Hope. A timer will count down until the event starts, or show the status of the current event. So long as you have accepted Zalazane’s Fall, you can join them at any point in the event to finish it. Because of the nature of the event, it is important that you remain close to Vol’jin at all times.
Once the event is done, you will be teleported back to Sen’jin. Return to Vol’jin for your reward – a cosmetic cloak and the Zalazane’s Fall achievement. Congratulations in freeing the Echo Isles, which will become the new troll home at the beginning of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm.
