You’re now four months pregnant! Congratulations! Here’s a look at what’s going on with you and your baby this week!
Your Body at 15 Weeks Pregnant
The top of your uterus is somewhere between 3 and 4 inches below your navel. You might be feeling a little bloated in the abdomen, but it might not be obvious you’re pregnant yet!
During pregnancy, your immune system isn’t as strong as it normally is. This weakness helps to protect your baby from your body’s own immune defenses, however, it may leave you more prone to colds and viruses. Be sure to eat healthy and get plenty of vitamin C to help ward off any colds and viruses!
You might be experiencing urinary tract infections. These are more common during pregnancy due to the relaxed ureters which may result in slowed urine flow and increase bacterial growth. If you believe you’re experiencing a urinary tract infection, be sure to alert your caregiver because you may need medications.
During pregnancy, a woman’s total blood volume increases. With this additional blood volume, it’s not uncommon for women to feel as though they have a stuffy nose, or even get nosebleeds.
Your Baby at 15 Weeks Pregnant
Your baby now measures between 3.7 and 4.1 inches long and weighs just shy of two ounces! Your baby is the size of a small apple.
Your baby can move all of their joints and limbs by now. Your baby is practicing breathing, inhaling amniotic fluid through her nose and mouth. These breathing movements help develop her lungs and prepare her for life outside of the womb.
Your baby has begun to grow a thin hair all over her body known as lanugo. This hair serves to keep her warm and insulated as she works on putting on body fat over the next few months.
