So why am I writing an article about Youth Alternatives of OIL CITY, PA? Well for one I worked there as a Youth Mentor for about 4 years and I feel that they need as much exposure as possible. This is a wonderful program for underprivileged youth in my surrounding community. They have provided a safe haven for the kids in my town for years and years.
Youth Alternatives (YA) has many programs to offer the youngsters in my town. This includes a Drop-in center, Skill Builders Program, Justus Fellows Program, Children’s Camping Program, and much more.
The Snack ‘n Study program provides a government approved hot meal for the kids after school. While working for YA, I always loved helping with this program. It is a great way to help tutor the kids while you provide them with a tasty meal. Some of these kids don’t get to eat dinner at home after school, so this really is a valuable asset to our community.
I also took part in the Skill Builders Program. This is a truancy program for middle school children. It is geared to improve and maintain student success.
Justus Fellows is a program designed for high schoolers who want to explore career opportunities and furthering education after high school. In this program, students get to visit college campuses and other fun and engaging activities.
Overall Youth Alternatives is one of if not THE greatest organizations in Venango County. I am grateful to have worked there and help out the youth in my community. You couldn’t ask for a better staff to look after and be role models for these youngsters.
