Zahra Baker would have turned 11-years-old on her birthday November 16th. There will be no birthday cake, no balloons in the air for the beautiful little girl. The police in Caldwell County have recovered human remains in a wooded area that they believe are Zahra Baker’s.
Hickory Police Chief Tom Adkins gave an emotional press conference this afternoon, when he acknowledged what he knew about the recovered remains.
According to WRAL5, Chief Adkins said, “We have recovered enough physical evidence to believe we have found Zahra.”
Adkins stated at the press conference DNA from a bone that had been recovered during a search along Christie Road in Caldwell County matched an item taken from the house of Zahra’s father, Adam Baker and Zahra’s step-mother Elisa Baker. This sample was taken from an item that is believed to have be one of Zahra’s.
Two days before this discovery a search team discovered human remains at a location in Granite Falls, located on the bank of Gunpowder Creek. This was the location where Adam Baker used to work.
The Chief stated, “According to the Medical examiner’s staff on sight the remains are consistant with those of a child. Chief Adkins told the press the remains are still being tested to confirm if in fact they are those of Zahra Bakers.
Still no arrest have been made in the case of Zahra Baker. Elisa Baker still remains in jail for writing a fake ransom note pertaining to Zahra. Now the community want answers as to what actually happened to this sweet and beautiful child. Why would someone commit such a horrific crime? Looking at the picture of Zahra, one’s heart cannot do anything but feel hatred for the people who did this to this child. Elisa Baker continues to stand by her statements that she found the little girl dead. But, she has said what Adam Baker did after the fact was horrifying. You just can’t seem to wrap your mind around the thought that someone took a sweet innocent child and dispose of her this way; that alone is a sick crime.
The search for answers will go on, but for now hopefully Zahra Baker will receive the proper burial she deserves.
