Sandy Alderson is the frontrunner for the Mets job and rightfully so. He is the most qualified of everybody that has been interviewed by the Queens team. Rick Hahn is among the other candidates.
This just in: the MLB is discussing implementing a seven day DL. This would be to help players suffering from concussions. Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell may have just won the managerial job with the Toronto Blue Jays. This report is not set in stone, but Farrell very well could be the next manager of the Jays.
The Texas Rangers have realized what it means to have an ace pitching in the playoffs. They are now heavily pursuing a new deal with Cliff Lee. Sandy Alomar Jr. and DeMarlo Hale are the two other candidates for Toronto. However, it looks like neither will get the job. Alomar was a former baseball star and is now Cleveland’s first base coach. Hale is the bench coach of the Red Sox.
Mark McGwire isn’t sure whether or not he will return as the hitting coach of the St. Louis Cardinals. Big Mac wants to spend more time with his kids. Tony La Russa said that McGwire will get a chance to return.
Ryne Sandberg is one of the faces of the Chicago Cubs franchise. However, he is leaving his employment with the club and is pursuing a managerial job. Speaking of returns, Brandon Inge did get his wish.
The Detroit Tigers third baseman received a two year deal worth 11.5 million along with a 500K buyout and a club option for the 2013 season. Inge had a dismal year this year after a breakout year in 2009. I think that 2009 was an anomaly in his career. Brandon Inge is a pretty poor player, but he loves the Tigers. The Tigers did overpay him though, but otherwise I am glad they resigned him. Inge is a good guy.
Dave Dombrowski mainly signed him for his defensive stability. Inge rarely makes mistakes, and for that he is known as one of the premier defensive third basemen in the league.
