November 27 is the Santa Express at the St. Louis Iron Mountain Railway in Jackson MO. The Santa Express departs the Jackson station at 1pm and 3:30pm for 2 hour trips. Reservations are highly recommended. On this trip Santa boards the train and reads The Polar Express over the speaker system and each child is able to sit on Santa’s lap. Snacks are available for purchase during the ride. Prices are free for 2 years and under, $9 for ages 3-12 and $16 for 13 and older. There are additional trips on December 4, 11 and 18th. November 28th is the 19th Annual Parade of Lights located in Downtown Cape Girardeau. Christmas Dreams is this years theme and it will begin at dusk. The parade starts at Capaha Park and heads east on Broadway then south on Main Street. This is a spectacular display of lighted parade floats and well worth bundling up and braving the cold to go see.
December 3 – Bethlehem Village of Hope. This is a fantastic and detailed display of how Bethlehem may have appeared the day after the birth of Jesus. The atmosphere is amazing and they have many people dressed up in costumes. The Roman soldiers patrol the area on horseback while weavers, carpenters and other merchants are in their shops. There are also many live animals. The event is held on December 3-5 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. Free chili, cookies, hot chocolate and coffee are served. It is located in Delta MO at the First Baptist Church. A free event and great for families!
Saturday, December 4
Nature’s Decor is the event of the day at the Conservation Nature Center in Cape Girardeau. Another free event! Bring in a grapevine wreath (any shape or size) and they will provide you with everything else to make your own decoration using beautiful items from nature. December 11 from 9am – 11am
Breakfast with Santa will be held at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau. Breakfast cost is $5 per child and $5 per adult. There are discounts for multiple children. Come out and enjoy donuts, danishes, muffins, bagels, biscuits & gravy, milk and juice with Santa. You must register by December 9th. December 17 from 6:30 – 7:30pm is a Flashlight Candy Cane Hunt! Preregistration is required and the cost is only $3 per person. It will be held at the 4-H Exhibit Hall located in Arena Park. You get to decorate bags to collect your candy canes in. Then everyone goes out to find the candy canes with their flashlights. Afterwords there will be cookies and hot chocolate to enjoy.
