I purchased the Honda Insight EX model brand new in July 2010. This is one of the lesser priced hybrids that gets over 40 MPG. The Insight starts at about $19,800, depending on which package you select. The Insight EX model has cruise and a hatchback. The cruise controls are on the steering wheel and I really like this feature.
This car drives like a dream with a smooth ride and quiet motor. It is hard for pedestrians to hear this vehicle. So take note when your in neighborhoods with walkers and joggers.
The 4 cylinder engine has plenty of power. Since I recently drove down to the Texas hill country area and had a chance to test this. However my previous 4 cylinder vehicle, a 2002 Chevrolet Tracker SUV strained going up hills.
Honda information states the Insight gets 40 city and 43 highway MPG. While I am averaging over 42 MPG consistently. I drive some city and highway and I get about 20 MPG more than I did with my previous vehicle.
What a pleasure it is to drive this vehicle. The hatchback is very convenient and super easy to open. Both seats fold down in the back to give you nice cargo space as needed. Seats in back do not fold down completely flat. Seats are at an angle, with these higher towards the front seat. This has not been as issue for me, but may be for some.
One major con, the front seat cup holders were not placed well in this vehicle. You can get small drink, canned or small water bottle in these, but not a large fountain drink in a cup. I bought my own cup holder at Auto Zone that attaches to my door. However, I do see this as major design flaw. I can’t help but wonder what were they thinking on the cup holder placement.
Something I think a bit odd, is the placement of the speedometer. It’s sticks up above the dash a bit and with the size of the steering wheel, seems to be an awkward placement. You have to look over or under the steering wheel to see the speedometer. I wish this was on the display below, with all the other information.
Some really good information is shown on the digital display, like your MPG and elapsed time of current trip. Plus, there is the ECON Mode which helps you drive more fuel efficiently. I really like this feature, plus it’s like playing a game to see how efficiently you can drive.
I love the design of this vehicle. Even though it can hold five passengers, it has a sleek sporty look. The Insight is very streamlined and visually a beautiful automobile.
