Chelsea Handler was ready for the MTV Video Music Awards and the rowdy MTV crowd was ready for her. Between Handler, presenters, and performers MTV had a big night in store. Chelsea Handler was expected to be outside the box as a host for the VMAs, but she was rather tame. I’ve seen worse behavior from her on her evening show Chelsea Lately, on ET network.
Nicki Minaj and will.i.iam, Linkin Park, Bruno Mars, Mary J. Blige, Swizz Beats, Usher, Paramore, Jason Derulo, Drake, Justin Bieber, Eminem, Florence and the Machine, Travie McCoy, Robyn, and Kanye were all performers at the 2010 MTV VMA award show.
Eminem opened the show with Not Afraid but transitioned to Love the Way You Lie and was joined by Beynoce. Kanye was the closing act with a special performance that wasn’t all that stellar.
VMA is the one award show where anything can, and usually does happen. Chelsea Handler encouraged the crowd to be on their worst behavior, but the two hour award show went on without a hitch.
The following are the winners for the 2010 MTV VMA Awards.
Best Female Video – Lady Gaga for Bad Romance. Gaga accepted in one Alexander McQueen’s last dress creations before he passed away last year. Gaga’s hair was long and straight, but her heart was open, and she was very emotional.
Best Rock Video – King and Queens for 30 Seconds to Mars. Kings and Queens received their award from the crew of Jackass – who acted true to their name. King and Queens offered a humble acceptance speech deferring to and thanking their fans for the award.
Best Male Video – Eminem for Not Afraid. Eminem was not available to accepted his award because he left following his opening performance to fly out to New York. That was really disappointing. I would have loved to hear what he had to say about his win, but we will catch up on that after the show. He has to be plugged in somewhere.
Best Pop Video – Lady Gaga for Bad Romance. Gaga appeared decked out in flowing black with black spikes in her hair this time to accept her award. This time she was less emotional, but screamed at the top of her lungs.
Best Hip-Hop Video – Eminem for Not Afraid. Eminem was not available to accept the award.
Best New Artist – Justin Bieber for Baby, featuring Ludacris. Little Bieber looked like the kid that he is when he was accepting the award. He also looked a little lost, a bit like a deer in the headlights. It must be an overwhelming experience to be a kid among so many talented performers at the VMA. This has to be a surreal experience for him.
Video of the Year – Lady Gaga for Bad Romance. To accept this award Lady Gaga looked more like herself. She was wearing slit red clothes. To celebrate her win she offered the title of her new album *Born this Way. This was the coveted award that closed out the night.
The professional 2010 MTV VMA awards were thrown out in one quick breath, like so many scattered dog bones, but the results were as follows.
Best Art Direction – Florence and the Machine for Dog Days are Over.
Best Cinematography – Jay Z. and Alicia Keys’ Empire State of Mind.
Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance won Best Editing, Best Directing, and Best Choreography.
Best Special Effects – Muse’s performance of Uprising.
Additional video awards went to the following:Breakthrough Video – The Black Keys for Tighten Up.
Best Collaboration – Lady Gaga for Telephone featuring Beyonce.
Best Dance Music Video – Lady Gaga for Bad Romance
Clearly, Lady Gaga ruled the night at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.
