The 2010 NFL season continues to be a mystery as there appears to be no early season favorite to earn a trip to the Super Bowl. Twenty one of the NFL teams have at least 2 wins so far in 2010 and the average margin of victory from Week 5 was less than 13 points. So far we have compiled a decent 41 -30 record, but there is always room for improvement. Now here are the predictions for Week 6 of the 2010 NFL Season.
Atlanta Falcons at Philadelphia Eagles
Quietly the Falcons have earned four wins this 2010 NFL season and find themselves in the driver’s seat for the playoff picture while the Eagles remained locked in a three way tie for the NFC East. The Falcons are going to be using their running game to help keep the pressure off second year quarterback Matt Ryan. The key to the game will be the performance or lack of for the Eagles running game.
Prediction – Falcons 24 Eagles 21
San Diego Chargers at St. Louis Rams
Both teams were supposed to come away with a win this past Sunday. Instead the Chargers lost a key game to a division rival and the Rams were destroyed by the Detroit Lions. This is bad news for the Rams who will be playing host to a Charger team that is going to be primed for an offensive outburst. The Chargers will right the ship this week and earn their third win of the season.
Prediction – Chargers 34 Rams 21
New Orleans Saints at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
This NFC South division game features two three win teams that are need a win to keep pace with the Atlanta Falcons. The Saints missing running game has placed undue pressure on quarterback Drew Brees and have not had the big plays that helped them last year. The Buccaneers have found their signal caller in second year quarterback Josh Freeman and have proved to be troublesome for their opponents in 2010.
Prediction – Saints 27 Buccaneers 24
Detroit Lions at New York Giants
The Detroit Lions found their offensive groove last week against the Rams as quarterback Shaun Hill threw for 277 yards with three touchdowns. Despite the success, the Lions will be facing a Giants’ defense that shut down a potent Texans offense and held them to 10 points and 195 net yards. Quarterbacks better watch out in this game considering these two teams have combined for over 30 sacks this NFL season.
Prediction – Giants 24 Lions 10
Miami Dolphins at Green Bay Packers
The Dolphins are coming off a bye week and are ready to move past the embarrassing loss to the New England Patriots on Monday night. The coaches will need to take the reins off quarterback Chad Henne if he is going to find any success against a Packers defense that runs with the best of them. Both defensives know how to force turnovers and convert them into points. NFL fans can expect at least one defensive touchdown in the game.
Prediction – Dolphins 27 Packers 24
Seattle Seahawks at Chicago Bears
The Seahawks will travel to Solider Field and take on a Bears team that is sitting on a 4-1 record and looking primed to take control of the NFC playoff picture. The Seahawks defense will need to step up in this game if they are going to have a chance to earn a win. The Bears ran and ran the ball at will are going to be more than one dimension if they want to earn another win this week. Keep a close eye on quarterback Jay Cutler and his return to the Bears lineup.
Prediction – Bears 24 Seahawks 10
Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots
The Ravens have shown they are the team to be in the AFC and are one touchdown away from having a perfect record this 2010 NFL season. The Patriots will be returning from a bye week where they made a key roster move. Time will tell if it was the right one but for now, the Ravens will show that a good defense can shut down any offense.
Prediction – Ravens 17 Patriots 14
Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers
The Browns suffered a hard loss to the Buccaneers and were rewarded with a game against a AFC North rival and the return of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers find themselves in an ideal position as they bring Big Ben back up to game speed and take on an improving Browns’ offense. The Browns defense is going to give the Steelers some problems in the beginning but Roethlisberger will eventually find his receivers.
Prediction – Steelers 24 Browns 13
Kansas City Chiefs at Houston Texans
The Chiefs may have suffered their first loss of the 2010 NFL season, but they did show the NFL fans that they can be competitive and will give100% to every team they play. On the other hand, the Texans continue to be a mystery not letting us know which team will show up. The Texans always seem to do better at home and should find a way to revert back to their playoff potential form as they earn a victory away from the Chiefs.
Prediction – Texans 21 Chiefs 17
New York Jets at Denver Broncos
The Jets offense showed some wear and tear and lacked the explosiveness on Monday night. This will need to change when they travel to the Mile High stadium and go against the top passing attack in the NFL, led by the underrated Kyle Orton. The Broncos defense is going to have to make some key players to help them come away with an unexpected victory.
Prediction – Broncos 24 Jets 17
Oakland Raiders at San Francisco 49ers
The Raiders have begun to find their identity in 2010 and it showed last week when they earned a hard fought victory over the Chargers. The 49ers downward spiral continues though quarterback Alex Smith did improve his performance. Expect things to change this week for the 49ers who earn their first win of the season by knocking off the upstart Raiders.
Prediction – 49ers 20 Raiders 17
Dallas Cowboys at Minnesota Vikings
The Cowboys failed to capitalize on the momentum from the Texans victory and find themselves behind the eight ball when they travel to Vikings territory. The one thing they have in their favor is the Vikings will be working on a short rest week and will be beat up after a physical game with the Jets. Favre’s rough season is going to continue as the Cowboys earn their second win.
Prediction – Cowboys 31 Vikings 17
Indianapolis Colts at Washington Redskins
The Colts are coming off a hard fought victory over the Chiefs where the team’s leading scorer was their kicker. Peyton Manning and company are not going to have an easier time this week when they visit the Redskins who held the Green Bay passing attack in check. Any NFL fan would be crazy not to watch the match-up between two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks. Despite the prolific passing numbers, expect a low scoring game between these two.
Prediction – Colts 21 Redskins 17
Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars
The Titans show they could take care of business when they earned a hard fought victory over the Cowboys while the Jaguars continue their roller coaster ride of a season with another win. While the Jaguars did look good last week, they will have a tougher time against a Titans team that focuses running back Chris Johnson. The game will be a knock down drag out fight on Monday night with the Titans taking home the crown.
