2010 NFL Week 1 Predictions: Minnesota Vikings at New Orleans Saints: The Vikings’ season ended last year with a loss to the Saints in the NFC Championship game. Brett Favre got pummeled and as a result had to have surgery on his ankle. That didn’t stop him from coming back to redeem himself this year. The 2010 NFL Season kicks off with the most expected rematch of the week. The Minnesota Vikings have taken a huge hit this preseason, losing Sidney Rice for the first 6 weeks and Percy Harvin is suffering from migraines. The Saints are at full-power and Drew Brees is looking to tear apart the Vikings’ secondary and lead the team to victory at home. The Saints take this game 31-21.
2010 NFL Week 1 Predictions: Atlanta Falcons at Pittsburg Steelers: Michael Turner the Burner is back in shape and ready to roll all over opponents’ defenses. This should allow for Matt Ryan to have a better passing game than last year and hopefully hook-up with some big tosses to the unbelievably fast, Roddy White. The Pittsburg Steelers, on the other hand, are starting the season without Big Ben Roethlisberger and Dennis Dixon will be under center. If Big Ben was playing, this game would have been 50-50; but with him being out, the upper hand goes to the Falcons 24-14.
2010 NFL Week 1 Predictions: Carolina Panthers at New York Giants: The Panthers drafted Jimmy Clausen to replace Jake Delhomme but Matt Moore will be under center to start off the season. Matt Moore is an underrated quarterback and should be very productive with Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams in the backfield. The Giants had a hard season last year, finishing only 8-8. This year they will be looking to rebound hoping for a reliable quarterback in Eli Manning and a consistent running threat with Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs. This game should be a close one with the Giants finishing on top 21-17.
2010 NFL Week 1 Predictions: Cleveland Browns at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Both of these teams had poor seasons last year. Now with Mike Holmgren in charge, the Browns are back on path to rise to the top (or at least a .500 season). The Buccaneers, however, had a horrible season last year and really didn’t do too much this offseason. Josh Freeman got injured in the preseason and is listed as questionable for the season opener. The running game is a mess and they do not have any notable receivers. The Browns should take this game simply because they have the stronger defense with Jake Delhomme, Joshua Cribbs, and Jerome Harrison. Browns win 24-14.
2010 NFL Week 1 Predictions: Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills: The Dolphins and the Bills were both underperformers last year. This year, the Dolphins should improve, but after the departure of Terrell Owens, the Bills will have yet again, another bad year. With Chad Henne under center and Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown in the backfield, the Dolphins should have another strong rushing game with the 1-2 punch. The Dolphins win this game 17-10.
2010 NFL Week 1 Predictions: Cincinnati Bengals at New England Patriots: The Bengals look more threatening than last year. Carson Palmer should be healthy again and with reliable targets on both sides, he should have a field day. Terrell Owens was probably the best pick-up they had this offseason, especially accompanying Chad Ochocinco on the on the other side. Not only do they have a high powered throwing game, but Cedric Benson also had a very productive year last year and he should have a great year as well. Tom Brady might be back up to his “old self” and stepping into his passes rather than being hesitant. Also, it is a contract season for Randy Moss, so we should see production from him. Bengals win this throw-down 35-31.
2010 NFL Week 1 Predictions: Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans: This is one of my favorite match-ups. Two of the top quarterback-receiver matchups. Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne versus Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson. These two combos should make for a fun, high scoring game that could go either way. Arian Foster and Steve Slaton give the slight edge to the Texans powerful offense. Texans win 35-28.
2010 NFL Week 1 Predictions: Denver Broncos at Jacksonville Jaguars: The Broncos kept Kyle Orton, acquired Brady Quinn and drafted the “coveted” Tim Tebow. All three quarterbacks are good, but not great. Kyle Orton had his best season last year with the Broncos and should hopefully be starting off the year against the Jaguars descent defense. The Jaguars offense is strong in the run and mediocre in the passing. Maurice Jones-Drew holds up the backfield while David Garrard and Mike Sims-Walker are featured in the passing game. The Broncos should win this close game 24-21.
2010 NFL Week 1 Predictions: Oakland Raiders at Tennessee Titans: The Raiders actually did a good job in the offseason. They acquired Jason Campbell. Well, I guess that’s not much but at least they got rid of Russell. The Raiders also took a hit when Michael Bush broke his finger in the preseason. Luckily for them, Darren Mcfadden didn’t do half bad. The Titans are a team that can win the Superbowl. Chris Johnson had a monster year and Vince Young showed that he is ready to lead the team again. Titans win this game 28-17.
2010 NFL Week 1 Predictions: Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears: The Lions are on a path to rebuild their team and be successful in the next few years. Matthew Stafford turned out to be a good quarterback and shows great potential to be a leader for the team. Nate Burleson and Calvin Johnson are good targets for him to throw to, as well as their featured running back Kevin Smith and Jahvid Best. The Bears offseason was unproductive. They acquired Julius Peppers. Unfortunately, their defense was already good, they were just plagued by injuries last year after losing Brian Urlacher in the opening game against the Packers. They still don’t have an offensive line or any receivers for Jay Cutler to throw to. The Lions pull the upset win here in a low scoring game 17-10.
2010 NFL Week 1 Predictions: Arizona Cardinals at St. Louis Rams: The Cardinals are a completely team than they were last year. They no longer have Kurt Warner or Matt Leinart. Beanie Wells had a great year last year; however, it is hard to predict how good he will do this year without the strong passing game. The St. Louis Rams on the other hand, know what direction they are heading, and that direction is up in the rankings. After only winning 2 games last year, they were able to get a good first round pick, Sam Bradford. This should greatly help Steven Jackson get his running game back on track. The St. Louis Rams take this game 17-14.
2010 NFL Week 1 Predictions: Green Bay Packers at Philadelphia Eagles: The Packers showed off their talent this preseason. Aaron Rodgers is sharper than ever and with 5 great receivers this offense will be a huge threat through the air. They were also able to improve their offensive line by drafting Bulaga in the first round to add more depth, which will hopefully result in fewer sacks than last year. The Eagles traded away their best asset, Donovan McNabb. Now they are stuck with Kevin Kolb, who they hope will put up the same numbers as McNabb did in the past. The Packers should readily take this game 24-10.
2010 NFL Week 1 Predictions: San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks: Frank Gore, Alex Smith, and Michael Crabtree are the key features to the 49ers offense and should all have great years as long as they all stay healthy. Frank Gore should be able to run all over the Seahawks weaker defensive line. The Seahawks are still on the decline. Matt Hasselbeck has had poor seasons the last 2 years and he still has no targets to throw to. Julius Jones and Justin Forsett are descent running backs, but have no line to give them an edge. The 49ers should win this game 24-10.
2010 NFL Week 1 Predictions: Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins: The Cowboys are coming off a very good year, making it to the playoffs. Tony Romo still has his favorite targets in Jason Witten and Miles Austin. Their defense is still looking strong and should be productive against the Redskins newly revamped offense. Donovan McNabb was the Redskins huge acquisition this offseason. With McNabb’s arm and Santana Moss’s ability to catch and run, these two should be very productive against the Cowboy’s secondary. Cowboys should win this game 24-21.
2010 NFL Week 1 Predictions: Baltimore Ravens at New York Jets: The Baltimore Ravens are probably one of the best looking teams this year. They picked up Anquan Boldin and T.J. Houshmandzadeh. They now have a strong receiving corps to compliment Joe Flacco’s ability to get the ball down the field. Not only do they have a great passing game, but Ray Rice is also a phenomenal running back who will be putting up huge numbers, especially against the Jet’s defense. The New York Jets has second year, Mark Sanchez under center. This summer they brought in LaDainian Tomlinson to back up Shonn Greene. They also brought in some new Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards to throw to. The Baltimore Ravens should take this game with a 27-13 victory.
2010 NFL Week 1 Predictions: San Diego Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs: The Chargers drafted Ryan Matthews to replace LaDainian Tomlinson. The good news is that Matthews is a great running back that should perform for the team, the bad news is that the passing game was severely damaged with the loss of Vincent Jackson making the running game harder for the rookie. Luckily for Matthews, the Chiefs don’t have the strongest defense and he should be very productive. The Kansas City Chiefs still have Matt Cassel under center. He has two good receivers to throw to (Chris Chambers and Dwayne Bowe). They also have a good committee of running backs, consisting of Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles. The Chargers will have the upper hand in this game, winning 31-17.
