These week four NFL picks were tough. I have teams like the Browns, Ravens, and Dolphins pulling out victories that look unlikely on paper. Nevertheless, after going against my gut with last week’s NFL picks and coming out with a disappointing 8-8 record, I figured that I might as well go with my intuition. Thus far, I am 29-19 with my NFL picks for the 2010 NFL season. With all that said, here are my week four NFL picks. For my week 4 NFL power rankings, click here.
2010 NFL Week 4 Picks and Predictions: San Francisco 49ers at Atlanta Falcons – A strong passing and running game against the Saints allowed the emerging Falcons to beat out the defending Super Bowl champions. If the Falcons continue to play at this rate, they’ll escort the visiting 49ers with a dismal 0-4 record. I predict the Falcons to win this one at home, 27-17 against the 49ers.
2010 NFL Week 4 Picks and Predictions: Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns – Cleveland’s record is actually quite deceiving. Though they are 0-3, two of their losses were within a margin of three points. Their defense is playing much better than anticipated, and running back Peyton Hillis’ monster game against the Ravens gives this club something to be excited about. I think the Bengals’ offense is due for a breakout week, and this game should be an easy win for them; however, something tells me that the Browns are due for their first week. I’m going with my gut and predicting the Browns to stun the Bengals, 21-17.
2010 NFL Week 4 Picks and Predictions: New York Jets at Buffalo Bills – Ryan Fitzpatrick certainly provided a much needed spark to the Bills’ offense last week in a surprisingly close loss to the New England Patriots. I hesitate to imagine the Bills matching that kind of productivity against the Jets, but divisional games typically bring out the best in teams. Despite that, the Jets are building steam after two impressive wins over the other AFC East teams, and they’re looking to complete the early sweep. If Mark Sanchez keeps playing as he has, the Jets will finally look like the scary squad they pronounced they were all offseason. I think the Jets will beat the Bills, 28-20.
2010 NFL Week 4 Picks and Predictions: Seattle Seahawks at St. Louis Rams – The Rams finally got their first win, and it was a notable one over the upstart Washington Redskins. Bradford did a great job spreading the ball around, but Steven Jackson’s first touchdown of the season set the tone early. Seattle’s last win wasn’t necessarily pretty, but it did come against a Chargers team that many deemed superior. I like Seattle’s chances of taking full control of the NFC West, particularly if Steven Jackson doesn’t suit up for the Rams. I predict the Seahawks to improve to 3-1 with a win over the Rams, 17-10.
2010 NFL Week 4 Picks and Predictions: Denver Broncos at Tennessee Titans – Denver quarterback Kyle Orton has been putting up good numbers, but he needs to put points on the board; the Broncos’ running game hasn’t been of much help. The Broncos’ defense ranks 10th against the run this season, but Titans’ back Chris Johnson should be expected, as almost always, to have a big game in front of the home crowd. Nevertheless, I actually think the Broncos will get their second win, beating the Titans 24-21.
2010 NFL Week 4 Picks and Predictions: Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers – The Packers were on their way to consideration as the NFL’s top team, but they fell against the upstart Bears, who now own an impressive 3-0 record and first place in the NFC North. The Lions have been playing better than their record gives off, but the Packers will win this game and keep their division race tight: Packers 31-23 over the Lions.
2010 NFL Week 4 Picks and Predictions: Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburg Steelers – This is one of the better week four match-ups. The Steelers will be playing their last game without Roethilisberger, and they will do everything in their power to welcome him with a 4-0 record. Few could have expected such a strong Steelers’ start, but as Charlie Batch most recently proved in blowout game against the Bucs, Pittsburg looks like it can win with anyone under center. I think the Ravens will prove a stiffer opponent in what should turn out to be a physical battle of defenses; however, it will be interesting to see if Joe Flacco can feed off of his breakout game last week. I think the Steelers are the superior team, but I think the Ravens will edge out a close road-game win in this important AFC North fight: Ravens 24-21 over the Steelers.
2010 NFL Week 4 Picks and Predictions: Carolina Panthers at New Orleans Saints – We’ve all heard about kicker Jeff Hartley’s disappointing miss in overtime that ultimately doomed the Saints, but New Orleans let the Falcons hang around. This home game against the Panthers should provide an opportunity for the Saints to finally set off offensive fireworks. The Saints will beat the Panthers, 35-13.
2010 Week 4 NFL Picks and Predictions: Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Jaguars – The Jaguars are horrible; there’s no other way around it. Maurice Jones-Drew has yet to return to form, and David Garrard might as well purposefully throw passes to opposing players. Their week four meeting with the Colts won’t make things any better. Manning has so many different weapons to throw to, and he has to be licking his chops as he prepares for this game. The Colts will dismantle the freefalling Jaguars, 42-14.
2010 Week 4 NFL Picks and Predictions: Houston Texans at Oakland Raiders – The Texans have to be incredibly disappointed with themselves. They were one of the surprise teams of the 2010 NFL season, and many had quickly jumped on their bandwagon. I personally thought that they were going to outplay the more recognized team in Texas, but they failed miserably. The Oakland Raiders should prove to be a nice bounce-back, however, although they too should be fuming after a 1-point loss to the lowly Cardinals. If the Texans lose this game, they will be faced with huge questions. I think they’ll prevent that scenario and beat the Raiders, 30-20.
2010 Week 4 NFL Picks and Predictions: Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles – Without a doubt, this is easily the most intriguing and highly anticipated week four match-up. Few would have expected to see Michael Vick so quickly take over the starting job in Philadelphia, and Donovan McNabb is coming home but in the colors of a division rival. Though McNabb and his teammates will do everything to prove that he is the better quarterback, Vick is unquestionably playing the best football of his career, and the entire Eagles team is feeding off his passion and play. This game is obviously about much more than two quarterbacks, but can anyone deny that this is exactly why we can’t wait? I predict Michael Vick will continue to resurrect his career and pull off a win that carries more significance than he will let off, leading the Eagles to a 31-24 victory over the Redskins.
2010 Week 4 NFL Picks and Predictions: 2010 NFL Week 4 Picks and Predictions: – The Chargers should not have lost to the Seahawks. Philip Rivers amassed a career high of over 455 yards passing, but 83 yards worth of penalties, five turnovers, and two Seattle kickoff returns for touchdowns have the Chargers at a disappointing 1-2 record. The Chargers are becoming infamous for their slow early season starts, but they need a win over the Cardinals to keep it close between the Chiefs, who surprisingly lead the AFC West with an unblemished 3-0 record. The Cardinals inched out a win over the lowly Raiders in week three, but they were lucky Sebastian Janikowski missed three make-able field goals.
2010 Week 4 NFL Picks and Predictions: Chicago Bears at New York Giants – The Bears look like a legitimate team again. Their win over the Packers wasn’t the cleanest, but it feeds their renewed confidence and swagger that only grows from here. They didn’t run the ball wall (Cutler had the most rushing yards), and Chicago fans had to get a little worried when Cutler threw a horrible interception on a forced downfield-throw. However, their defense looked solid and a beautiful punt return by Devin Hester was all they needed. I initially thought the Giants would prove to be a strong contender in the NFC East, but their stock is falling. It will be hard for them to rebound against a Bears team that comes into their stadium with so much excitement. I think the Bears will move to 4-0, beating the Giants 17-13.
2010 Week 4 NFL Picks and Predictions: New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins – The outcome of this Monday Night Football game will have a lot of bearing on the tight AFC East standings. The Dolphins finally proved that they can throw, but it wasn’t enough to knock off the Jets, who also beat the Patriots the previous week. I want to type out a win for the Patriots, but something tells me that the Dolphins will pull out the significant win: 28-26 over the Patriots.
2010 NFL Season Week Four Byes: Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
