If you’re looking for Thanksgiving events in the Dallas/Fort Worth area to get into the spirit of Thanksgiving, or to kick off the holiday season, there are some special events going on. Some are exclusively Thanksgiving events, while others encompass the whole holiday season.
Here are some of the Thanksgiving events in Dallas/Fort Worth for 2010
Capital One Bank Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot, November 25, 7 am registration begins, City Hall Plaza, 1500 Marilla, Dallas
In its 42nd year, the Turkey Trot is a great “way to begin Thanksgiving Day.” Racers can participate in either an 8-mile or 5K fun run/walk, with the option of being timed or not. There will also be a “Trot Tot” for children under the age of 6 who want to participate.
Registration begins at 7 am; the wheelchair race begins at 8:59 am, with other races starting at 9 am.
Proceeds from the Turkey Trot go to the YMCA and benefit programs for the Live Strong at the YMCA Lance Armstrong Cancer Collaborative, the YMCA Urban Swim Program, and to provide scholarships.
Non runners will find other activities to enjoy as well: pony rides, bounce houses, and live entertainment, among other things. For more information, or to register for the Turkey Trot, visit the race’s website.
Let’s Give Thanks!, November 20, 1 to 4 pm, Kids Cooking Co., 6025 Royal Ln., Suite 225, Dallas
This Thanksgiving event for kids allow them to be a master chef and have a “Gobblin’ good time” creating Thanksgiving foods such as turkey noodle soup, sweet potato casserole, and pumpkin bars with whipped cream. Also in store: how about a game of turkey toss, storytelling, and even the opportunity to make Thanksgiving decorations.

Senior Thanksgiving Feast, November 19, 11 am to 1 pm, Senior Center New York, 1815 New York Ave., Arlington
Enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal without having to cook or clean up afterward. Sit back and visit with friends old or new while your meal is being prepared. Reservations are required; call 817-460-5009 for more details or to register.
Thanksgiving Craft Time, November 19, 4 pm, Mesquite Main Library, 300 W. Grubb Dr., and Mesquite North Branch Library, 2600 Oates Dr.
