Here is the 2010 week 8 unbiased college football rankings discussion following week 7. Follow how the UNBSD rankings have changed after the final 2009 rankings from ESPN. If you get the method, then you get the madness. This eliminates the biases by only using how things have played out on the field (that’s why they play the games).
What do Horned Frogs, Broncos and Ducks have in common? They all get leap-frogged in the BCS. If you like rooting for the little guys (non-AQ schools) this would be your week as the undefeated teams went down in bunches. When you deal with the polls, moving up is a sham for the non-aq schools.
TCU takes #1 this week while Boise St was idle for the second time this year. Hammering the Falcons in Fort Worth shows the Horned Frogs have the offense and the defense to be #1 in the UNBSD rankings. TCU has one game to go against the Runnin’ Rebels before their big game in Salt Lake City against the Utes. Air Force may try to rebound at home against Utah.
Oregon may face a test in the Coliseum against the team-that-shall-not-be named. The Ducks are still on cruise control leading the nation in points-per-game. Auburn made the big move of the week in the BCS by defeating Oklahoma. The Tigers are now in the driver’s seat and face a Nebraska team that is getting its footing back after beating the Okies in OK. The Spartans found an extra tank of gas against Northwestern in the remaining minutes of the 4th quarter and now head to Iowa to keep their Big Ten streak alive.
The one-loss teams shuffled a bit as some teams lost and some of their wins became less valuable or vice versa. The road losses are ahead of the home losses-then looking at if the games were close makes for some interesting placements.
