Adam Lambert’s rabid fans inform me that his debut album (For Your Entertainment) has sold 750,000 copies in its first year. I am told (again, by Lambert fans), that this is a huge accomplishment and shows that Adam Lambert has become a legitimate star. For a reality check, I have put together a list of albums that have sold 1,000,000 or more albums (i.e., albums that are substantially more successful than Lambert’s):
Album #1: To The Extreme by Vanilla Ice. This groundbreaking hip hop masterpiece sold 11 million copies worldwide, which is almost 15 times as many as Adam Lambert has sold. [Source: http://www.spike.com/blog/top-10-worst-albums/92524] Granted, Vanilla Ice was just a flash in the pan. But he was a much, much larger flash than Adam Lambert has turned out to be.
Album #2: The Wiggles by The Wiggles. While Adam Lambert would love to match the achievements of these four brightly-colored-shirt-wearing Australian men, he is unlikely to do so. Their premier album has sold well over a million copies. [Source: About The Wiggles, 22 Nov. 2010. http://www.thewiggles.com.au/au/about/] They also have a lyrical richness that is lacking in Lambert’s attempts. Example: “Fruit salad… Yummy, yummy.”
Album #3: Breathless by Kenny G. This is actually only one of 7 Kenny G albums that have gone platinum. [Source: http://www.spike.com/blog/top-10-worst-albums/92524] Kenny G demonstrates that, while people do love Adam Lambert, they love elevator music even more – a lot more.
I could go on, but you get the point. Selling 750,000 albums simply does not make someone a superstar. Adam Lambert has a long way to go before he can claim to have a hit album. As noted in my prior article (http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/6032010/what_ever_happened_to_adam_lambert.html?cat=2), I for one do not believe he will make it.
