Sometimes things in life such as work and school can take their toll on a friendship, as it can be difficult to spend meaningful time together. As with any relationship, friendships need a significant amount of bonding time in order to flourish. Getting into routines that do not provide you and your friends to experience bonding time can cause you to grow apart and can be detrimental to your friendships. Here are four different activities that you can do to better bond with your friends and create some memories that will last a life time.
Miniature Road Trip
A road trip doesn’t need to span across the country, and sometimes the most enjoyable trips are the ones that are within a few hours of your home city. Choose a location no more than four hours from your hometown, and set out early in the morning with your friends. Even if your ending destination is not the most interesting of places, it is more about the time you spend together. Choosing a location within a few hours of home will eliminate the need to get a hotel, as your miniature road trip can be a short day trip. If you live within a few hours of a state line, it can be fun driving to the first city past the border simply to say that you went on a trip out of state. Take lots of pictures to chronicle your trip.
Maybe you and your friends have a mutual love fore gourmet food, or maybe you have always wanted to learn to speak Italian. Enroll together in a class that will teach you how to do something you have always wanted to learn how to do, and go to “school” together each week to learn it. Learning new skills can be an excellent bonding experience and will give you and your friends new things to talk about.
Turn your passion for reading into a bonding experience by starting up a book club with your friends. Assign a book each month or week and meet once weekly to discuss what you have read. You can meet for coffee or lunch at your favorite restaurant and talk about the characters and plot of your latest read. Take turns assigning books and try to choose books from a wide variety of genres to enhance the experience.
Volunteering at a local animal shelter or soup kitchen will give you and your friends the chance to bond while giving back to the community. You will develop tons of new memories volunteering together and will feel great about the work you are doing. Choose an organization that you all feel passionate about and set it up so that you and your friends always volunteer at the same time together.
