What’s could be worse than forgetting your past? I’d be so lost if I forgot all about my friends from high school and all the fun I had as kids. It’d be terrible to forget the few memories I still have of all the loved ones who have passed. By following these tips, you’ll help train your memory so you won’t forget as much in the future.
Play a Game
There are tons of different brain games that will help you keep your memory in tip top condition. If you have a Nintendo DS or Nintendo DSi, buy Brain Age. I love that game so much! If you have an iPod Touch or iPhone, consider downloading one of the hundreds of mind apps, and spend a few minutes a day on it while you’re on the subway. There are so many mind games out there, and most of them are very addicting, so you’ll come back again and again.
Read a Book
Besides the fact that reading is one of the most enjoyable things out there, you’ll not only improve your memory but you’ll also improve your vocabulary and grammar. By reading you have to remember information about events that happened in the past and things about characters. It’s a great way to exercise your mind. Once you’ve read a couple books, see how much you remember about the first ones you read.
Learn Something New
Try taking up a new language. Recently, I’ve started up on learning Japanese Hiragana. It’s somewhat hard to remember the symbols at first, but as I kept going it got easier and easier. There are so many things you can do besides learn a new language, like reading up on a sport or place to travel.
Keep a Diary
If you have a diary, even when you do start to forget about things in your far past, all you have to do is read back a few pages and it’ll jog it all back up. This is a great idea, and although it’ll take a while to start, by reminiscing on all those things in the past you’ll also be training your memory.
There have been studies that show you need to engage your brain regularly to keep it staying sharp, but you don’t have to spend hours a day to keep it in its best condition. By taking five minutes out of your day to try one of these things, you’ll be very grateful in the future that you did.
