For many people, their electronics are their life blood. From cell phones to video game consoles to computers- the world of technology is right behind dogs as man’s best friend. If there’s one thing most technology doesn’t like, it’s getting cold or wet. Here I’ll provide you with some suggestions on how to keep your technological devices safe from hazardous temperatures and moisture.
1. Lens Protector or Carrying Case
For those with a Nintendo DS, Sony PSP, a cell phone, or any other pocket device- this an absolute must. Keeping your screen safe from the damaging effects of cold and moisture with a screen protector. These 3rd party accessories often can make the difference between a frigid cracked screen and a safe one- and they protect against smudges! Another great choice for keeping your tech safe is purchasing and keeping it in a carrying case. These generate a nice cozy atmosphere and protect against potential trauma.
2. Store with cloth
Traveling some place cold? Make sure you not only pack warmly for yourself, but also for your various gadgets! Bundle up any tech susceptible to cold with a towel or extra clothes to help repel the cold. You’ll be glad you did when your big ski trip leaves you trapped in your cottage under twelve feet of snow. You’ll be kicked back playing Tetris or Pokemon while everyone else eats their shoes out of boredom.
3. If necessary, leave it plugged in!
If you’re house is freezing and you’re starting to fear for the well-being of your tech toys, your best option is to simply leave it plugged in. Whether it has an AC adapter or simply a charger- by doing so, you cause an electric current to actively pass through your device. The generated warmth from this measure can save precious tech from the dangerous effects of cold weather.
4. Keep it in your pocket
Some people like wearing their cell phones around their necks or carrying their portable game system at their belt. While it might look trendy, this can leave it vulnerable to the damaging effects of the weather and outside world around you. One spilled drink, unwanted weather change, or drop and it’s no more! Do yourself a favor and keep your portable tech stored in your pockets or purse.
5. Store properly
When not in use, it isn’t wise to just leave your pieces of tech just lying around. Make room in a warm drawer or cabinet to store your potable game consoles, cell phone, or whatever else you might have. If the object is much larger- say a PC or game console, make sure it is kept in a warm room that’s not prone to leaks. You’ll be glad you did!
