Many people enjoy sewing, myself included! Sewing is a fun, creative, productive and practical hobby! Sewing is fun, but the supplies and tools needed can get expensive and really add up! Here are five great gift ideas for someone who sews!
A Sewing Machine or Serger
Personally, I have three different sewing machines and all three are used for very different projects. If the person you know who sews could use a new machine, or simply an additional back-up one, this is a great gift, but be sure to do your research! A lot of sewing machines are built very well and you wouldn’t want to waste your money on one that will break! Look online for reviews before you purchase one!
Fabric is a great idea for someone who sews, but before you buy them any fabric, do some homework and find out what kind of things they enjoy making the most. Do they make stuffed animals out of flannel? Do they make baby onesies and shirts out of jersey knit? Do they quilt with gingham? Do they make cloth diapers with PUL? Do your research and find out what kind of materials they need for their projects and if you can, find out how much they need!
Notions can be a great stocking stuffer! Things like thread, tiny scissors, seam rippers, rotary cutters, tape measures, extra bobbins, sewing machine oil, quilting pins and more can all be great stocking stuffers! These items are small and easy to obtain, yet practical and useful for your recipient.
A Good Lamp
Sewing is always done best under good lightening. Find out if your intended recipient has a good lamp over their sewing table. If they don’t, look into getting a lamp that would work well near their machine! Make sure it will work, and it won’t create clutter! The last thing you want while sewing is clutter! Definitely try to scope out their sewing area prior to purchasing a lamp, and remember that you’ll want a lamp that is well adjustable!
If you can’t figure out what to get that special person, opt for a gift card or gift certificate to fabric and craft stores! Most people who sew have a little list of things they need or want to get, so give that person a gift card and let them choose what they want to knock off that list!
