Everyone has heard the saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away,” and although that statement may not be entirely factual, apples are certainly beneficial to our bodies. Apples are one of the most popular fruits and they are very rich in dietary fiber, as well as vitamin C. The polyphenols and antioxidants also add to the nutritional benefits of this tasty fruit. Although many people of all ages enjoy simply eating apples the old fashioned way – biting into them whole and eating around the core, there are a number of other ways to eat apples that are just as delicious. Applesauce is another popular way for apples to be eaten. You can purchase applesauce at the grocery store or you can even make your own. You can even find or make applesauce with other fruits added, such as berries. Applesauce spiced with cinnamon, either prepared with the spice or sprinked with cinnamon when serving, is another tasty way to eat applesauce.
2. Apple Cider
Apple Cider is a popular drink in the Autumn months and it is one of the tastiest ways to drink apples! It is often served on and around the Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas holidays. It can be served cold or heated, and spiced or mulled apple cider is quite popular, too. Apple cider is a tasty alternative to apple juice, especially in the Fall season, and it can also be made into alcoholic beverages, as well.
3. Apple Butter
Apple butter is a very thick form of apple sauce that is used as a spread. The crystal carmelizing is what make apple butter its rich brown color. There are a variety of ways to eat apple butter, such as on crackers or toast, in a sandwich or wrap, or as a dessert.
Apples are a great compliment to salads, and they compliment many ingredients. Some ingredients that mix well with apples in a salad are candied nuts, such as pecans or walnuts, cheddar or gorgonzola cheese, cranberries, and a citrus or poppyseed vinaigrette. One of the tastiest ways to eat apples for lunch is in a salad.
5. Apple Pie
Apple pie is another one of the most popular ways to eat apples. You can make apple pie with just apples or with addition of raisins, nuts, or carmel. Apple pie tastes delicious with a lattice crust or topped with crumbs. Get creative, and make your own unique version of apple pie.
