Whenever I go to an Italian restaurant I always order dishes that have pesto in them. Homemade pesto sauce is absolutely delicious. I’ve never made it at home because rounding up all the ingredients can be a tad costly. Typically the ingredients in pesto sauce are fresh basil leaves, garlic, olive oil, parmesan cheese, and either walnuts or pine nuts. Instead I use Classico Traditional Pesto Sauce and Spread. I love it because at Target it usually only costs me about $2.14. It keeps up in the fridge quite nicely as well.
Adding pesto to your veggies is ones of the best ways to make them taste delicious. I like to make an Italian salad as a side sometimes when I go to pot luck parties. I chop up zucchini’s, tomatoes, olives, cucumbers, and red onions. The salad turns out delicious and the ingredients in the sauce really liven up a salad that otherwise might have been dull and lackluster. Other ways to eat veggies with pesto is to mix Greek yogurt with the sauce and use it for dipping.
I love a pizza with a white sauce. I figured out how to make a wonderful pizza with white sauce by mixing parts of my favorite Alfredo sauce with the Classico spread. I am completely clueless when it comes to making dough from scratch so I will either purchase an already cooked dough such as Boboli, or a pick up some raw pizza dough from Trader Joe’s. Spread the sauce thin on to the dough then add your favorite toppings.
On A Turkey Avocado Sandwich
Erik’s Deli in Northern California makes a turkey walnut pesto sandwich that is to die for. Their sauce is creamy and flavorful. The sandwich has whole wheat multigrain bread, fresh avocado, tomatoes, sliced red onions, sprouts, and turkey. I always omit the sprouts and tomatoes because I am not a big fan of either. The combination of the turkey, avocado, and pesto is very yummy.
Whenever I need a large dish that is appetizing and that also feeds a lot of people I will make a whole package of pasta and add the entire container of Classico pesto sauce. The pasta also holds up for a few days so it serves as a great lunch to take to work.
Chicken and pesto is another remarkable combination. Grilled chicken with pesto sauce drizzled over it is very flavorful and filling. Also sometimes when I make pasta I will add boiled shredded chicken then add the pesto. I do this to balance out the protein with the carbohydrates.
