Perhaps the hardest gift to find, in my opinion, is the gift for a boyfriend. I will never know why, but, trying to find a gift that is equal parts caring, memorable and, well, not sucky seems to be a bit harder to find for a significant other rather than a family member. I have bought several gifts for boyfriends over the years and after some “research,” I believe these six gifts are some of the less cooler things to give and should probably be avoided.
Think of it this way: a kid never really likes getting socks for Christmas and the same theory can be applied to guys and boxers.
Just like how it can be dangerous to buy a girl a handbag, unless you really (and I mean really) know her, men and wallets are just like that as well.
Jewelry should be avoided at all costs except if your boyfriend is in the mafia or thinks the Jersey Shore is the best and most thought-provoking television show in the world.
Doesn’t he have enough of those? If anything, try finding your man a nice coat or jacket that will both be stylish and doesn’t add to his mountain of hoodies. Some ideal places to look for inexpensive but nicer coats are Forever21 Men, H&M and Express Men.
This has the same theory as buying a man a wallet-with cologne, you might not know if he will like it, unless he says so. Especially if the two of you have just been recently dating and don’t know his tastes too well yet, do try to avoid this gift.
6. Gift Cards
This is the easy way out of not putting thought into a gift, especially if it’s for a clothing store! The point of gift-giving is to find something that the person likes on your own. Perhaps the only exception to this one is getting gift cards for places like Best Buy or other electronic stores.
All in all, the point of a gift-for anyone-is to be something that shows you care about them and also something that they will like and possibly use. It might be tempting to buy something that you think is cute or cool and then, as an afterthought, think your boyfriend will like it but in reality you have to think like him in order to discover that perfect gift.
If you are having a hard time figuring out what he might like, just ask! There are sly ways to ask what he might like for the Holidays without completely giving away the surprise. Or, be a good listener and listen to what he says off-handedly, perhaps how he needs a new pair of sneakers or would love to get that new video-game. All in all, good luck and enjoy your Holiday season!
