Forget who wins big at the 2010 MTV VMA’s; the award show is really all about what goes on beyond the acceptance speeches. And with Chelsea Handler hosting and stars like Eminem, Justin Bieber, and Kanye West performing, it’s going to be hard to care much when Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber raid MTV’s trophy case. So while Lady Gaga gets inspiration from her many mini Moonmen’s shiny costumes, you can enjoy watching the 2010 MTV VMA’s for a few other rad reasons when it airs on Sunday, September 12th at 9PM ET:
Chelsea Handler – You’ve got to love the 2010 MTV VMA’s host for her ability to speak her mind about anyone and everyone, and I’m sure she’ll have her sardonic sense of humor turned up to 11 for the show. Plus you’ve got to love a host that’s willing to humiliate herself for her humor; I could see Chelsea Handler dressing up like Lady Gaga or getting revenge for Taylor Swift by interrupting Kanye West’s award speech if he wins. Which brings me to the next reason to watch the 2010 MTV VMA’s:
Kanye West and Taylor Swift – According to Entertainment Weekly, Chelsea Handler wants to reunite Taylor Swift with Kanye West for the 2010 MTV VMA’s. So will she succeed? EW.com confirms that Kanye West will be performing at the 2010 VMA’s, but there’s no word on if he and Taylor Swift will reunite to pay homage to one of the internet’s greatest memes as of yet. Could they perform a spoof duet? Will there be some kind of skit? I guess if Taylor Swift doesn’t take part, Chelsea Handler could always fill in for the bubbly blonde. And even if Taylor Swift and Kanye West feel that they can’t capture that adlibbed magic with a planned performance, there’s another Kanye West collaboration possibility that he could use to continue to resurrect his image.
Justin Bieber – MTV.com reports that Justin Bieber and Kanye West were working on a collaboration together, so wouldn’t it be sweet if they took their teaming up beyond a few tweets? If Kanye West wants to appeal to a whole new audience, the 2010 VMA’s are the perfect opportunity to try and woo a few of Justin Bieber’s many fans, and since both stars are set to perform at the 2010 MTV VMA’s, Kanye West might not end up needing Taylor Swift to become a hot topic again.
Lady Gaga vs. Katy Perry – Okay, so I know neither one of these pop tarts will be performing, but I can’t wait to compare what they wear to the awards show. Will Katy Perry’s candy kitsch take the cake, or will Lady Gaga burst her bubble gum with some of her dangerously sharp geometric shapes? And even beyond these women and their wacky wearables, you’ve got to love the VMA’s red carpet for being loaded with funky and fun fashion.
Eminem – Honestly, I would love to see Eminem team up with Justin Bieber more than Kanye. I don’t think there’s a chance that will be happening (could you imagine Justin Bieber trying to belt out one of Em’s songs?), but I still think it will be interesting to see what the resurrected star that loves to shock brings to the 2010 MTV VMA’s in his planned performance. And you never know what to expect with Eminem; he did allow that whole thing with Bruno to go down (literally) at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards.
Frank Miller Gucci Ad – And if the 2010 MTV VMA’s skits full of stars aren’t enough to keep you entertained, watch during the commercial breaks for a mini-film by the director of ‘Sin City’ peddling Gucci perfume. The graphic novel noir mini movie is a star-studded affair with Captain America Chris Evans and vampy ‘True Blood’ vampire Evan Rachel Wood making appearances in the ad that Don Draper would surely envy. Check out a bit of the action here.
So if you don’t care much for awards that aren’t gathering dust on your own trophy case, there are still plenty of other reasons to watch the 2010 MTV VMA’s besides seeing the successful bag a little more bling for their abodes (here’s to hoping Chelsea Handler is a host that’s not afraid to roast her rich and talented audience).
