Before you walk out the door, your dog probably looks at you with big sad eyes. At times you may feel bad for leaving your dog alone, and bored. Worry no more! These 5 tips are sure to make your dog forget you are even gone.
Tip #1 Wear him out!
Before you leave, take your dog on a walk, or perhaps a jog. Dogs love to go on walks because they love exploring. Not only is this good for you it is also good for your dog. Just think about it, the both of you are getting exercise. By doing this, it will wear your dog out. He won’t even realize you are gone, because he will be snoozing on the couch.
Tip #2 Hide treats!
Hide dog treats throughout your house. You can use any type of treat. A good idea would be to put peanut butter in a Kong toy. Hide the treats in places that he won’t be able to find easily, but don’t make it to hard. Dog’s have a great sense of smell, so all though they can smell the treat, they don’t know where it is. This will be like a game of hide and seek, which will keep your dog entertained.
Tip #3 A nice big bone!
When you give your dog a bone he immediately starts “working” on it. Dog’s see bones as a project, they will chew and chew until it is all gone. You must give your dog a bone that he likes, because if he doesn’t like it he will lose interest. If you give your dog a big bone that he likes he will more then likely be in the same spot that he was in before you left, and he will still be chewing away.
Tip #4 Call your dog!
If you have an answering machine, leave your dog a message. Your dog will hear your voice and become happy. Be sure to talk loud so you catch his attention. Say your dogs name several times, and baby talk him like i’m sure you do when you are at home.
Tip #5 Bubbles!
Dogs go crazy over bubbles. Buy a bubble machine from a toy store, and let your dog chase the bubbles while your gone. This will easily keep him entertained since the bubbles are never ending. Be sure to place the bubble machine in an area that he can’t reach.
Tip #6 Toys everywhere!
Be sure that your dog has plenty of toys to play with. Your dog most likely loves tennis balls and squeaky toys. Think of your dog as a child. The more toys they have, the more they will play. This being said, if your dog has a vast amount of toys he will be very preoccupied and entertained.
