In 2010 Harley Davidson rolled out the sportster XL883L. For 2011 they have made a version of this bike that looks like it baby brother. These bikes are the perfect size for a beginner. Its smaller height and lower seat will fit better for the shorter rider. It has a new seat design, a 17liter tank, spoke wheels and an unbelievable paint job. Cutting corners is not in these guys, vocabulary. They have layered the clear coat a full 5mm deep. The metal flakes are larger and the sunglo and pearl colors are strikingly unique.
If you are 5’3 or under this is the bike for you. A person of that height usually has to use their toe for stability as traffic lights and stop signs no more sitting astride the 883 your feet will be flat on the ground for better control of the machine. Although the handlebars on this sportster hang high in very cool chopper fashion they can still be reached comfortably. It all come together to give the rider a very “Easy Rider” type of vibe.
The hand controls are the standard for every Harley intuitive and easy to use. The signals practically think for themselves and can determine how long to stay on based on the angle of the bike and its speed. This is great if you are just learning to ride or an older biker who has lost a little dexterity. As with all Harley Davidson bikes the view of your gorgeous piece of machinery will never be marred by unseemly wiring the harness is fully hidden behind the engine and inside the frame. The peanut tank is beautifully crafted and has checkered flag design that will get you all the attention a rider of a Harley Davidson deserves.
One of the best and most important features of this sportster is the 883cc V-Twin Evolution Engine. Everyone will know you are coming as this bike has the distinctive engine sound that can only be a Harley. With aluminum heads and cylinders this is a breeze to handle, as it is lighter and more maneuverable. And they got rid of the carburetor and made it fuel injected to boot. This is an engine that is known to run hard and ride smooth. The Harley Davidson Evolution Engine made its debut in 1984 and the motor company has been built around its distinction.
Finally, it comes down to how to keep your bike safe and the folks at Harley has thought of everything as the sportster comes with a state of the art security system. This one has a key fob that allows you to arm or disarm while staying on the move. All of this magnificence can be yours for around 7999.99. Harley Davidson has a reputation for motorcycle excellence and the new 2011 883 lives up to that reputation. Leave it to Harley to think of making a small great bike with out losing any of the features that are so important in a Harley. Now that is what comes of being “Made In America”.
