The busy and active life of Sarah Palin began with her birth, on February 11 1964, in Sandpoint, Idaho. According to the article, “Sarah Palin: State Governor” her family moved to Alaska when she was very young, and as she grew up she began to carve out a life for herself. She went to high school in Wasilla, the fourth largest city in Alaska located about 40 miles northeast of Anchorage. She was athletic, and on the girls track and basketball teams. Her senior year she was co-captain of the girl’s basketball team that won the Alaska State Championship. She also led Fellowship of Christian Athletes, while in High School.
Being poised and pretty she placed first in a Miss Wascilla pageant, which led to a second runner-up finish in a Miss Alaska contest. In 1987, she graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in journalism. In 1988, she eloped with her high school sweetheart, Todd Palin, and worked with him in his commercial fishing business. They have five children.
Her first excursion into politics was in 1992, when she won the first of two terms on the Wasilla City Council. She didn’t finish her second term because, in 1996, she ran for and was elected to her first term as mayor of Wasilla. In 2006, she became governor of Alaska, and was good on a campaign promise to clean up Alaska’s corrupt government. She fought big business and crooked politicians, and successfully backed up her campaign promise. Her nickname among grateful citizens was “Saint Sarah.”
In 2008, she became a part of national politics when she accepted John McCain’s offer to be his Vice Presidential running mate. They lost the election, but Palin decided to resign as governor of Alaska, and remain a part of the national political scene.
Palin is a conservative. She’s been a registered Republican since 1982, opposed health care reform and opposes same-sex marriage. She supports the 2nd Amendment, wants to drill in Anwar and her statements reflect an anti-global warming sentiment.
She’s been quiet about her future political plans; so it’s anybodies guess. However, the consensus is in the future her name might appear on a ticket for President, or Vice President, of the United States of America.
