Buying a birthday gift can be a real chore, especially when you’re dealing with a tough age group like tween boys. I’ve found myself in this predicament several times: what do you get a kid who’s in that “in between” age? He’s definitely too old for finger paints and play dough, but is he too young for video games? Look no further, I’ve got you covered!
You can’t go wrong with matchbox cars
A great value for your money, matchbox cars can be the perfect gift, especially if you’re shopping for a kid you might not know very well. Toy stores, department stores, and value stores all carry matchbox cars, in one form or another, so they’re very easy to find. Make sure to grab a gift receipt with your purchase, though. Some tween boys are avid matchbox collectors and may already have the cars you select!
Action figures are always hot
What’s the big “thing” this season? If it’s a movie, wrestling, or anything boyish, I can guarantee you’ll find an action figure for it. These are also very affordable and are easy to find, but just like the matchbox cars, make sure to request a gift receipt with this purchase, too.
Outdoor toys are fun and healthy
If you’re a fitness or health proponent (who isn’t these days?!), you may want to consider a toy that will get the lucky birthday boy out and about and moving! A basketball, baseball and glove, or soccer ball are great ideas for this type of gift. Or, if he’s not into organized sports, why not pick out an inexpensive skate board? Anything pertinent to outdoor activity is a great idea, and I’ve never seen a kid let down by any outdoor toy!
Go out on a limb with a console game
Ask around and find out if he owns a gaming system and pick out a game for it. Just be sure to make sure the game is compatible with the system. And, as always, make sure to pack a gift receipt!
A last resort: the gift card
If you can’t pick a gift or just don’t have the time, a gift card is an excellent option. Pretty much every chain store offers gift cards, and this is also a good choice if the birthday boy is fickle and hard to please. Letting a kid pick out his own gift might be a good idea and is always appreciated!
If you’re in a pickle and need a quick, easy gift, these are the best out there. Birthdays are meant to be fun for everyone, so stop stressing and take my advice and choose one of these gifts– you won’t regret it!
