Alocepia is a hair growth disease most commonly known as hair loss. Hair loss could begin in as small as eraser patch baldness in the scalp that may eventually grow to a larger spot, and worse on the entire scalp.
While this is the most common hair growth disease, the real cause remains unknown until now. Autoimmune condition is suspected to affect the hair follicles causing hair loss, but a more intensive study is yet to be done to create a more reliable foundation.
The hair may grow back without the intervention of medical treatment, but in most cases, doctors could help especially if the hair loss increases over time causing larger patches.
This hair growth disease is characterized by localized scaling and flaking of the scalp, with pus bumps that develop around the base of affected hair. Usually, there are no symptoms of itching or pain despite of the presence of inflammation. Most common cause of this disease is prolonged tension and pulling on the hair.
Usually, this disease does not cause hair loss but with severe rubbing and scratching due to itch and irritation, the hair begins to thin around the edges. Usually, dry and itchy flakes occur in patches over the scalp, especially around hair margins. This disease is more common when a person is stressed and anxious.
As the name suggest, this disease is characterized by excessive shedding of the hair in the telogen phase of hair growth cycle. At the normal rate, we should be losing around fifty to one hundred hairs a day in the telogen phase. But with this ailment, around two hundred or more are being shed. Stress could trigger this disease so much. That is why despite the fact that this disease could correct on its own after few months, another stressful situation might repeat the occurrence of this disease.
