Kids say the darndest things and they never disappoint. They just have a different way of looking at life, a way that can inspire us and make our ribs hurt with laughter. My children are no exception. They say things that make me think, make me question, make me understand, and make me smile like I’ve never smiled before.
My four-year-old son is a chatterbox and he won’t hesitate to tell you exactly what is on his mind. He attended preschool at a local child care chain. He was excited to get up, get ready, and go to “school” every morning. He looked forward to greeting his caregivers and playing with his friends.
Every day, his caregivers, or “teachers” as he called them, would tell me about his day – what activities they did, what he learned, and any progress he made. There was one teacher, in particular, whom my son found very intriguing.
One day, as he was looking at her, she asked him why he looking at her for so long. He told her, “You’re as pretty as a flower.” And, without skipping a beat, he added, “But not as pretty as my mommy.” She couldn’t help but laugh and give him a hug. When she told me about the interaction, I couldn’t help but laugh and think, “Yep, he’s my little mommy’s boy.”
