First came the documentary film, Battle of Brooklyn. Then came the musical play, “In the Footprint: The Battle Over Atlantic Yards.” Now, Norman Oder is planning a book about the Atlantic Yards.
Norman Oder, author of the blog Atlantic Yards Report, announced he is quitting his day job at the Library Journal and dedicating himself full-time to writing a book about the Atlantic Yards project. Oder has written over 3,700 posts already about the controversial project-many meticulously researched and over 1,000 words long.
Since starting the blog in 2006, Oder has poured over public records and law books; immersing himself in issues of urban planning, affordable housing, and eminent domain. He even co-authored a law review article for The Urban Lawyer: the National Quarterly on State and Local Government.
In an interview with the New York Observer, Mr. Oder stated “I think the story needs to be told…it’s been told in dribs and drabs. It will be mythologized, and it will be spun, and parts of the story will get lost. The story needs to be synthesized and made sense of. And made compelling.”
