UCSF is so dominant along Parnassas that there does not seem to be much else. Furthermore, the hospital is really cramped, almost bursting at the seams. I guess that is why they are building a campus at Mission Bay. Unless you are in the reception area for your appointment, everywhere you go, in the garage, in the waiting area, there are constantly people milling around you. If you are from a more lightly traveled part of the city, it is a little disconcerting. At the food court, sometimes, it is hard to find a seat during the busy times of the day, and there are constantly people walking by.
For a little peace and quiet, to calm myself down before appointments, or just to kill time before an appointment, I like to sit inside the Starbucks at 350 Parnassas. I like to read here, and maybe work on my laptop. The way that the tables are situated inside, there is no one walking around or past you. You will not be disturbed for hours, except for the occasional announcement of a coffee drink. There is no other spot like it at UCSF.
