This is part 4 of my in-depth preview of the Time4learning website. See part 1 entitled “A Peek into Time4learning Pre-K and Kindergarten” part 2 entitled “A Peek into Time4learning Grades 1-3”, and part 3 entitled A Peek into Time4learning Grades 4-6. My own children only used time4learning sporadically in these grades as they moved into local homeschool co-op type classes. (They had no trouble keeping up with in-person classes after doing this program.)
Upon login into the grades 6-8 level of time4learning, students will find a start page that can be personalized with 4 tabs at the top. They are lessons, art, playground, and logout. Under the lessons tab you will find Honors Algebra, LA extensions, Language Arts, math, Science, and Social Studies. You may notice that grade 6 is available in the 4-6 grade group and the 6-8 lesson group. That allows the family to choose the grade 6 level based on whether the child is accelerating into harder work, or still needs to cover some areas at a lower level.
Math and social studies is the core of the program at this level. The science and social studies are nice to have, but if a student has completed the subjects in earlier grades, they may be ready to move on to textbooks. Honors Algebra is also the same as what is available in the grade 4-6 level and it is still quite advanced for grades 6-8, so if your child has not attempted it earlier, they may want to try it now.
The level 6 -8 math for Time4learning grade 6-8 is basically middle school math and pre-algebra. Subjects covered in each level includes number systems, real numbers, number theory ratios, expressions, plane geometry, probability and other subjects you would find in a pre-algebra text book. Each level, of course is more difficult than the preceding level.
Like in grades 4-6, language arts is composed of units in vocabulary, process skills, comprehension, and state assessments as well as units that work in conjunction with novels the student should read. The language arts extension portion covers all things grammar and writing.
