The people of Nuremberg Germany awoke on a very unusual dawn in the spring of 1561. It wasn’t exactly the best wake up call, what with all the loud booms and crashes outside. But when people dared to look up from their precious city, they were all flabbergasted at the shocking sight above. There in the morning sky, shot and zoomed various shapes including: blood red crosses, bright orbs, and cigar-like objects. It was as if the end of the world was taking place. The things would fly around, blasting balls of light, and there were many that were actually producing other shapes as if making multiples of themselves. Some would end up vanishing, either heading straight up toward the sun, or disappearing as they crashed into the earth in fuming clouds of dust, steam and smoke. In the words of Nuremberg’s gazette or broadsheet (basically an old version of the newspaper) the townspeople saw, “cylindrical shapes from which emerged black, red, orange and blue-white spheres that darted about.”
It seemed to be an aerial battle of some sort, one where even the spectators were able to decipher which team was actually winning. This would last for over an hour. But finally, when the “battle” came to end, there appeared an enormous ship-like object, the shape of a spear. It was black, and shadowed much of the land.
Events were later described in a flier, as well as the broadsheet. Two very old carvings (one by Hans Glaser, the other by an unknown artist) and other artwork were also created to depict the outlandish scenes. Today, these artifacts, as well as the gazette can be found in a museum in Zurich, Switzerland. The broadsheet recorded still reads clearly, what the townspeople had witnessed: “… the globes in the small and large rods flew into the sun.” It also described the whole thing as a “dreadful apparition.”
Warnings from a preacher shortly followed the incident. He told others about how angry God must have been, and that they had to go to church to repent their sins. His words were, “The God-fearing will by no means discard these signs, but will take it to heart as a warning of their merciful Annunciation with St. Emidius Father in heaven, will mend their lives and faithfully beg God, that he avert His wrath, including the well-deserved punishment, on us, so that we may, temporarily here and perpetually there, live as His children.”
Another odd phenomenon had also taken place in Switzerland in 1566. By Switzerland’s own gazette, the scene was described as, “At the time when the sun rose, one saw many large black balls which moved at high speed in the air towards the sun, then made half-turns, banging one against the others as if they were fighting a battle out a combat, a great number of them became red and igneous, thereafter they were consumed and died out.”
The interesting thing about these battle like incidents, is that they have happened before, in fact, all throughout history. Another strange and similar occurrence was seen 3,000 years ago, and is written about in the old Indian text, the Bhagavad-Gita, also known as “The Discourse Between Krishna and Arjuna on Divine Matters.” In this ancient literature, there was an event that describes fighting gods, ones who rode chariots in the sky and threw fire and smoke at each other.
Whatever they were, battles of the gods as some of our ancestors see these events, or perhaps a series of dogfights from some other worldly creatures, it’s probably well worth mentioning that when a certain phenomenon plays out in front of people back in the 1500s, then the scenes would obviously be described much differently than you or I, or someone from the twenty-first century would have detailed them. What I am suggesting is that, if what they described was true, there could have been some sort of technology that our ancestors witnessed and just couldn’t comprehend because they themselves did not possess the ability to build or use such technology. After all, if the same people from Germany, Switzerland, and India had seen our own twenty-firsty century airplanes and jets flying around fighting one another, don’t you think they would have possibly described it in the same way: loud noises, fire blasts, strange shapes moving about in the air, smoke, dust, etc?
