Thanksgiving is a time of sharing and giving thanks. I am thankful my mom made this coffee cake for our family during the holiday season especially, and has passed the coffee cake recipe on to me. I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday!
2 1/2 c. flour
2 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. shortening
Mix these first ingredients in a large bowl with a fork until crumbly. Reserve 1/3 to 1/2 cup and set aside.
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
Add all of these ingredients to the large bowl with the first ingredients and mix well.
1 c. sour milk (one cup of milk + 1 Tbs. vinegar)
2 beaten eggs
Pour into a lightly greased 13×9 inch baking pan. Sprinkle the reserve amount of first ingredients evenly over the batter.
Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
