Adopting a pet is always an exciting experience for a person or family, but adopting a pet from a humane society or shelter can be even more rewarding. The animals that are usually in these types of places are animals that were left outside as strays or have been given up by their owners. By adopting animals from shelters you are allowing these animals to have a fresh start at life.
Since I live in the state of Michigan, I was looking for a good place to adopt a new furry friend, and I ran across the Humane Society Of Kent County. This is a great place with so many wonderful animals that need homes and I would recommend it to everyone. You walk in and you want all of them. The adoption for a dog was pretty simple, and did include a fee of $125. Adopting a cat is a similar process and costs about $90.
While the fee might seem a little bit high, it actually covers many really good things for the pets, such as spaying and neutering, vaccines, physical exam, testing for parasites, and a microchip, among many other things. Animals that are older than seven years have a smaller fee or are even free. The Humane Society Of Kent County does this because older animals are more often looked passed but they can be absolutely amazing pets as well!
The Humane Society of Kent County will make sure that you are going to be a good owner and provide a good home for the animal that you want to adopt. They will make sure that you live in a place that animals are allowed in, and you must be 18 years or older in order to adopt, but all family members are wanted and even recommended to be included in on the adoption process. You will also have to fill out some questions before you are able to adopt. This will allow the Humane Society of Kent County’s staff to see if you are the right owner for the dog. It includes some common things, such as your address, name, phone number, what type of home you live in, etc. It also asks some other questions about your household, such as your pet history, any other current pets, number of children and their ages, etc. Along with a typical question sheet, you will have to fill out a short survey. The survey asks some fun questions that just get to know what kind of owner you are going to be and what kind of pet you want to have. This will allow them to try to match you to the correct pet and personality of the pet.
All in all the process is very simple and the Humane Society Of Kent County does a very good job at placing animals with owners and giving these precious animals a new start.
