Recently I had the opportunity to ask Caprice Willard, Vice President, Regional Planning Manager, Ready-To-Wear, Macy’s Southwest, a few questions about the hot new fashion trends for winter 2010-2011.
Of course one of the questions, that every fashion forward female is trying to find the answer to right now is, “What are the top trends of the season, and what are the best ways to wear them?” Well, this season Caprice Willard says the look is, “Minimalist glamour meets architectural form.” And given her expertise in the industry, we think she is absolutely correct. Take a look at the Top 3 fashion trends for this winter.
The fabulous look of leather has never really gone out of style, but this year you will see much more of it than ever before. This season’s leather look has a redefined tougher look to it. Rugged biker jackets and military-inspired leather boots will no doubt be hot this season. To make the most of your wardrobe this winter, look for items that are versatile and trendy; leather pants, leather jackets, and leather vests are all a sure hit. We will also see some new combinations like leather with lace, and leather with knits. And as Caprice says, “We will certainly see the yin and yang this fall, with leather prevalent and lace-the ultimate masculine/feminine contrast.”
Some people may be thinking, “oh my!” But these terrific tall boots create a chic look and make a big statement. Over-the-knee boots look great when paired with dresses and skirts, as well as fitted fashions like leggings, jeggings, and skinny jeans. These super tall boots are a fabulous wardrobe addition, as they are very versatile, yet fashionable and functional. For the best selection of over-the-knee boots, make your next stop Macy’s.
Another functional yet, fashionable wardrobe staple for winter is sweater knits. Knits this year are going to be bigger than ever-but not just any knits. Look for knits with novelty stitching or key details, advises Caprice Willard. Caprice also reminds that, “Ensuring that the knits are the appropriate weight and weather appropriate is especially important-you want to register the trend, but still be comfortable.” And she is exactly right, what good is a cute sweater if you are not comfortable in it. Knits are a fabulous addition to any winter wardrobe, because of their versatility. Plus they are comfy and warm too.
These 3 trends will continue to be popular through winter, so add some leather, knits, and over-the-knee boots to your wardrobe. You will love how versatile these pieces are, and you will wonder how you ever lived without them.
