Whether or not you are a woman, you can still visit and experience the exhibit at MoCADA, 80 Hanson pl, in Fort Greene. At least, that is, until the exhibit shutters its doors on December 19th.
“Ain’t I a woman?” offers contemporary pieces depicting women of African descent, “focusing specifically on their interiority.” In case you stopped to puzzle on that last term, I can affirm for you that ‘interiority’ is in fact a word and as you might guess, relates to the interior, internal, or psychological quality of a subject.
“Rather than examining women through the objectivity of their bodies, the artists portray African Diasporan women as active participants in their visual representations” in painting, video, installation, and mixed media pieces.
Ain’t I a Woman is being shown in The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts at 80 Hanson place. The exhibit is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday, 11am – 6pm.
