We don’t get to chose them
And we wish we could lose them,
Whether brought on by
Pollen or dust or foods.
Noses run and skin itches
And the discomfort creates hitches
In our ability to hold happy moods.
They seen so unfair as not everyone suffers
From these irritants that can drive us to distraction.
So we take certain meds to lessen the red
That colors the allergy’s actions.
We can be just as allergic to people
Who rub us the wrong way
And avoidance is probably
The best treatment.
If we are allergic to what somebody says,
It won’t likely be cured
By a salve or
By a breath mint.
Life without imperfection is not life at all,
But a game show we pretend we are winning.
The allergies that we face each day
Remind us that discomfort is not always caused
It’s how we were born
Or about what we prefer.
Both make us who and what we are.
Antihistamines may calm some symptoms
But from perfect health
We are all pretty far.
Life, itself, can be an allergy
To one irritable and annoyed,
No medicine or talk with the Clergy
Will transform the discomfort
Into a joy.
While we wish the allergies would just go away,
In some form, to everyone,
They are a part of
Each and every day.
Allergies are not earned strife,
Just unavoidable aspects
Of daily human life.
