Now, I must preface this by noting that I already follow a healthy weight loss diet, so the weight loss that I am expecting to see is simply a slight uptick in the amount of weight I lose by the second week. Right now, I lose approximately 1.5 pounds per week. Because my diet and exercise program is in line with the Alli program, I am not going to chance either of those, I am simply going to start taking the pills.
What is the Alli plan?
Alli works as a lipase blocker, which means that it blocks the absorption of fat by the intestines. Instead of the body absorbing all the fat contained in foods, some of the fat is flushed out of the body through bowel movements.
On the Alli plan, each meal eaten must contain no more than 15 grams of fat, and three meals per day are eaten-no snacks. The Alli pill must be with a meal, but no more than one hour after or before the meal. I am going to take the Alli pill immediately before I take the first bite of my meal.
As far as exercise goes, the MyAlli website and literature that is included with the Alli Starter Pack indicate that a minimum of 20 minutes of exercise be done three times per week. My exercise program consists of a lot more exercise. I exercise for at least 90 minutes five to six days per week. I usually do 3 sessions of moderate intensity exercise that last 30 minutes per session. I will continue this work out regime while taking Alli.
What is it like following the Alli plan?
I didn’t have any of the unpleasant side effects that are called ‘treatment effects’ by the MyAlli website. If more fat than 15 grams per meal is consumed, there is a chance that you will have urgent bowel movements that may result in an ‘accident’ if you can’t make it to the bathroom in time. Oily anal discharge, oily flatulence and stomach cramping are also possible.
Did Alli work?
When I weighed myself after a full week of taking Alli, I had lost 1.8 pounds. That is an improvement over my usual weight loss. I decided to weigh myself after two full weeks and then again after three full weeks and average these amounts out to see if Alli is actually helping me to lose weight. During week 2, I lost 1.76 pounds and during week 3, I lost 1.9 pounds. That means that with three weeks of taking Alli, my weight loss average went from 1.5 pounds per week to 1.82 pounds per week; so, not a significant improvement, but an improvement nonetheless.
