One great attraction in Seattle is the Science Fiction Museum, which houses exhibits of some of the most interesting movie memorabilia in the North West. The Science Fiction Museum is housed in the same building as the Experience Music Project, and together they have a lot to offer the visitor. The EMP and the Sci-Fi museum are conveniently located at Seattle Center, right at the base of the Space Needle. “What if?” is the question that provoked thousands of books and movies in the science fiction genera, and the exhibits housed at the Science Fiction Museum ( SFM ) and Hall of Fame explore “How?” that happened, and “Why?” it’s of interest to so many people. The SFM is the first museum in the world devoted to exploring the history and thought provoking influence of science fiction on film, literature, and other media. Science fiction is very innovative and encourages people to dream of new possibilities for science, technology, and humanity itself.
The ‘Not-So-Weird Science Display’ represents actual technology and technological development seen through the eyes of science fiction. ‘The Science Fiction and Society’ room show how writers, publishers, filmmakers, and artists and their ideas in this genera have reflected our lives and possible futures with their work. ‘The Metal or Mortal’ display shows off robots, android and artificial beings- each with a fascinating story to share. You’ll enjoy discovering in person some of the props used in “Lost In Space”, “Star Wars “, and “Blade Runner”. After you walk through some of the displays, you’ll also enjoy checking out the SFM gift shop which offers some impossible to find collectibles that relate to your favorite Sci-Fi Fantasy movies, television shows, and books .
More Popular Movie Memorabilia at the Science Fiction Museum in Seattle
The ‘Cities of Tomorrow’ , ‘Star Trek’, and ‘Fantastic Voyages’ exhibits are among the most popular. These exhibitions and activities are dedicated to technologies that have been dreamed of and imagined for decades, such as incredibly fast space ships with the ability to move faster than the speed of light. In the special equipment locker you’ll see SF representations of special hardware and technology, like the communicators, tricorders and scanners from Star Trek. On the ‘Space Dock’ you can watch all of the most legendary spaceships from movies and TV travel by, and learn more about them at interactive stations. Be sure to also check out ‘Space Suits and Travel Technologies’ which displays famous space suits from movies, and explores theories of time travel, wormholes, and teleportation.
‘The Death Star and Other Amazing Places’ is also a must see at the SFM. See depictions of the classics in envisioning new worlds and environments. You actually get to see and activate the real Death Star Model used in the “Star Wars” movies! Models and props from “”Battlestar Galactaca” and “independence day” are also on view, along with many iconic treasures from other movies.

Once a month the EMP and SFM have a special all acess night that makes it open to the public for free. It’s held the first Thursday of every month, so plan ahead. To get in free you have to arrive between 5:00 and 8:00 pm. This special free first Thurday of the month also features live music by local musicians and special programing.
Many people have such a great time that they decide to join the SFM and EMP , so that they can visit as often as they like. Special privelidges are offered to members, such as opportunities to by concert tickets and see events before the general public. Regular day passes are also available daily. Adults get in for $18.00; and seniors, youths, military and students with picture ID get a discount pass for $12.00. Group discounts, school and educational programs, and special events are also offered.
