Kris Allen, American Idol, came home to Conway, Arkansas. FOX TV wanted to tape footage for an upcoming segment of the show, American Idol, in Kris’ hometown, on October 8, 2010.
Much to the surprise of Kris Allen, the town had something prepared for his homecoming. Their pride was evident and the citizenry wanted to honor their 2009 American Idol. With all of the accolades he had already received, the choice of how to honor him was difficult.
Kris Allen is a well known face in the town of over 50,000 residents. People stop him when he visits and he generously stops and signs autographs for his fans. He epitomizes the stardom that some residents desire. His charitable works are known world wide, from walking shoeless for TOMS shoe donation program to visiting poor nations abroad. He has recently performed for a Blackbird Academy of Arts organization, which provides quality art instruction to Faulkner County area. His humanitarian spirit knows no boundaries, local or worldwide.
The town had built a park in the downtown area to honor the Simon family, who owned and operated a general store downtown for many years. When the Simon brothers retired, the building was sold.. Simon Park is located across from the old Simon Grocery Store. The park has a stage, where many musical performances are held.
Allen had performed at this stage when he was in the American Idol competition.
The stage at the Park was named for Kris Allen on his most recent visit, prior to the FOX taping. Allen was the first performer to occupy the newly named stage during his visit. He performed several musical selections that brought the cheering crowd to their feet .
The Conway mayor, Tab Townsell, the entertainer, his family and dozens of fans joined in on the celebration of the naming of the stage. Allen showed his appreciation by humbly thanking the town for their support and continued love for him.
The Kris Allen stage will be a busy place with performances that the entire community can enjoy. From time to time, Allen might even find time to perform for his hometown of Conway, Arkansas. This is a fitting honor for a home town boy, who brought the small town ties to Hollywood. Conway’s pride is showing, whenever they see a performance on the Kris Allen stage in Simon Park.
