Cindy Martin is an adaptive physical education teacher at Northwood School in the Raytown School District.
The September 8, 2010 edition of the Raytown Times paid recognition to her in an article titled, For Special Olympics: Teacher rappels down 15 floors.
Ms. Martin is involved in a Special Olympics event called Over the Edge. As part of this event she rappels down 15 floors.
She is not a woman scared of challenges, proven by the fact that she has been involved in the Special Olympics for 18 years. Additionally, she is the Special Olympics coach at Northwood. She was also a gymnastics coach at the World Games.
According to the article, “Martin likens pushing herself to rappel from that height to Special Olympics athletes pushing themselves to reach their goals”.
It can only be her passion to see others succeed that keeps her motivated and driven to be involved with the Special Olympics and her rappelling expertise.
And because of this, Cindy Martin is declared to be today’s American Shero. You are making a difference in so many lives.
